Don't know if this has been posted on here before? It's a clipping from the Express and Star newspaper. Can't quite remember the year. I guess it's the eighties?

1983 is my guess, as that's when Ken Harrison took over as Dan's artist. It was on the centre spread for a year, before taking over the front and back covers - so Grigg's replacement as Korky artist didn't have the cover for very long. That's assuming the article got it's facts right, since Grigg only drew Dan for annuals and Summer Specials (Dandy Comic Libraries didn't exist until 1983, so I assume Grigg never drew those, and the weekly Dandy used reprints of Dudley Watkins' Desperate Dan strips).

DAVID GUDGEON took over the KORKY cover duties around this time, there were also some CHARLIE GRIGG KORKY covers interspersed with these, but whether these were brand new or repeats I'm not 100% sure. Charlie's decision to cut back on his work must have been a bit of a blow for the then current DANDY EDITOR DAVEY TORRIE, who I think only took up the position the previous year [1982].

There was at least one KORKY comic library by Charlie; 'SILLY HAPPENINGS', I remember it well, very accomplished work. GRIGG'S contribution to the DANDY I grew up with was immense.

I remember Charlie being interviewed at the time on our local tv news about it. (ATV Today or Central News or whatever it was called then.) He was drawing the artwork for the cover of the 1983 Dandy Summer Special, so it may have been late 1982 or early 1983.

Central replaced ATV on January 1st 1982, so it was Central News.

I happen to visit websites like TV Ark sometimes, a wealth of knowledge about TV presentation there.

I'll have to check but I'm fairly sure that after his retirement from regular weekly comic work Charlie Grigg was still the artist behind most of the Dandy Comic Library Korky strips.

After a quick check of the early issues of Dandy Comic Library Chas Grigg drew all but one of the first 7 issues featuring Korky the Cat (the first in No3 was drawn by Chas Sinclair), the issues in question being Nos 23 53 96 112 127 and 149.
