Which Ken Reid Bear Alley book would you like to see first?
Fill in this 7 day poll.you have only one chance to vote...it might help Steve to choose which Ken Reid to do next...I'll email the results to Steve at the end..

Dare-a-Day Davy; quite an extraordinary strip.
Second choice would be Queen of the Seas.

Re: Which Ken Reid Bear Alley book would you like to see first?
I voted for that as well:)
second would be The Nervs
One good thing about Bear Alley books is that it will not be public...and won't be censored...People who buy it will generally know what to expect..

Maybe the banned Dare-a-Day Davy strip could be included!

There are only just over 80 Dare-A-Day-Davy strips so it'd be a slim volume. Similarly, Ken only drew The Nervs for a short time. Perhaps the two could be combined into one book?
Personally I think a Frankie Stein collection would be good. Lots of people only have memories of the watered down Bob Nixon version so it'd be nice to show them the darker humour of the more manic and bizarre original Ken Reid version.

Queen of the sea is on the other Bear Alley post..
just an amazing talent Ken Reid...all of these should be done...very excited at the idea of owning a book of these..
Re: Which Ken Reid Bear Alley book would you like to see first?
I will happily buy each of these, even though I have all Dare-a-Day Davy, Nervs and all but two Queen of the seas. it's Ken Reid!
Re: Which Ken Reid Bear Alley book would you like to see first?
Faceache should have been an option, really! The early years are as much vintage Ken Reid as anything else. Possibly even his most popular character?
Re: Which Ken Reid Bear Alley book would you like to see first?
Jasper looks like Roger the Dodger in period dress, although that's not surprising, given that Ken Reid was Roger's original artist. It also looks like The Dandy's Oliver Twister wasn't as original as I previously thought.
Could that Dare-a-Day Davy strip have inspired Sparky's Some Mummies Do Ave Em?

Jasper's the old guy, not the kid.
A collection of Reid's football comic strips could be nice, too - probably a lot of material there that many fans may not be aware of, and some of it looks quite good. I'd love to see more of The Soccernauts from Scorcher and Score, for example.

Just scrolled down the page without actually reading it... silly me. At least you knew what I meant.

I'll send the results to Steve...my favourite has won..
Re: Which Ken Reid Bear Alley book would you like to see first?
If Dare-a-Day Davy is the first book, I hope the 'lost' strip is included. I also hope some careful restoration is planned. The problem with both this strip and later Queen of the Seas is the horrible letterpress colouring or 'ruining' as we called it. How they could have spoiled such flamboyant artwork with those diabolical dots is hard to understand. And a lot of them are so poorly registered that it's sometimes hard to even see what was drawn. So The Nervs may have been a better choice as they are a) well-printed in black and white and b) the most imaginative strip ever published! ("Hello, Putrid date!")

I was thinking this, too. I'd certainly have voted Faceache. If there weren't enough of them to justify a volume (though given how long it ran, I doubt that), I'd include Martha's Monster Make-Up, too.Raven wrote:Faceache should have been an option, really! Hi Peter,
I'm trying to catch up with e-mail and whatnot after a busy couple of
days. I've just remembered that you sent over these poll results and I
forgot to acknowledge them. An interesting set of results and I'll
certainly take them -- and the comments that have appeared on the Comics
UK forum -- into consideration when figuring out future Bear Alley Books
titles. I hope you can pass on my thanks to everyone who voted and
commented.
The colour version of Chris Weston's cover for Phantom Patrol is now on
display at the website...
http://bearalleybooks.blogspot.com/
I think everyone will like it, and those fortunate folk who have
actually seen Gerry Embleton's original strip will hopefully agree that
the cover compliments the story perfectly.
Kindest regards,
Steve
