Car Boot sales

I visit car boot sales now and again searching for comics. The other day I went to one and was amazed at how much I found! Here is the stuff that I bought:

75 Issues of the Beano (a few Dandys as well) ranging from 1995 to 2002 costing £5.00.
Buster Book 1991 and 1992 costing 50p each.
Dandy Book 1985 costing 50p.
Bash St. Annual 2006 costing 10p.
Dennis the Menace Book 1994 costing 10p.
Dandy Annual 2007 costing 10p.

I only started collecting comics a year ago. And was quite pleased about finding these at a low price.

That's some good bargains there.

I bought about 200 Beanos a few years ago for £8 with complete years 1986 & 1987.

I go to the odd carboot and picked up some great items, but you have to look mainly under a table or on the floor hidden away somewhere.

10p for any annual is a bargain, heck 50p was cheap. Excellent finds, even if they're fairly recent. I'd expect to pay at least £1 for an annual.

At a car boot sale a few years ago, I managed to pick up quite a few Beanos from 1999-2001. There were loads of them there, but for some daft reason I didn't get all of them. I was also given as a present recently five Beanos, three Dandys and a Buster, all from 1998. Interestingly, in 1998 Buster already cost £1.10, at a time when the Beano and Dandy cost just 45p! Also, in one of the issues I found a Billy Whizz story that was recently reprinted in the comic.

Buster was fortnightly by then, so it works out 55p a week.

yeah, thats where I found all those Beanos, they were 10p each. But I bought them all and got discount.

I've relied on Car boot sales to get most of my annuals. Usually Ebay is too pricey for me. At a car boot near St. Helens, I got plenty of Beanos and Dandies ranging from 1992-1995. I've also got other beano's at car boots including some from 1999-2002. I usually go to the Car boot at Wicksteed Park, and have happened to get some good bargains. Once I got a Monster fun Annual for 20p, and I've also happened to get the Beezer annual 1959 for £1. However, a lot of people don't seem to know prices for annuals at car boots (Once, a lady was selling a Dandy annual 1975 for £3!) There are also a lot of people who don't understand that if you have an ertl model at a car boot, it shouldn't be more expensive than the original price!

ERTL were an American company who made diecast Thomas the Tank Engine models. I had quite a few when I was young (for some reason I never got Gordon - he was always my favourite), but I gave them away a few years ago. The ERTL range disappeared in about 2004ish I think - the UK was the last place you could get them new.

I went to the giant bootsale at dunton in essex on sunday a stall was full of new 2010 tv related annuals going cheap hanna montana anyone all i got was 2 war picture libarys for 50p and that took 2 and a half hours to find

I'm guessing that they got those annuals at less than the RRP else they couldn't be making a profit. How cheap exactly? Anyone who buys from him is an idiot, since I assume people can just buy them from the same shop he did, for less money than he's asking for.

I think what this guy is doing is illegal by the way, buying in bulk just to sell on at a car boot. My local council bans such traders from their car boot sales (although the rule is intended to stop DVD piracy).

Maybe the guy intercepted a few boxes en route for some bookshop or other. His profit margins would then be very acceptable to him in these Credit Crunch days.

I did notice earlier this week that my local Tesco was selling some 2010 annuals at half price, Hannah Montana was one of them. I'm keeping an eye out for the Broons/Oor Wullie books. Tesco usually has a good deal on annuals eg two for £8 last year.

I regularly mooch about my local car boot looking for annuals and such like. Most Beano type annuals tend to average about £1 each but some sell for 50p if you are lucky. It is suprising how much some people think the stuff they have is worth though. I often enquire about some tatty comic or annual only to be told it is a collectors item but I can have it for a fiver or so. I would love to buy up a nice run of 70's or 80's comics but I have never ever seen them at the right price or even close to it.
