Name that Spooky Artist [NAMED!]

For some bizarre reason, the style seems to remind me of Keith Page. Can't say why, but it does.

this artist is definately famous----in recognizable comics terms with a strong visual style-----that perhaps illustrates best what was wrong with the 'old' system of comics production.......sales were high compared to today, but today's 'signed pages' [though better than nothing] are too little, too late, and scant relief for so many of the excellent bcomics creators of the 'boom' years.

Thankfully sites such as these are introducing reasonable efforts to acknowledge these unsung heroes.........

Back in the 1970s a huge black book was published called Dracula which featured dozens of full colour strips from Europe - all with a supernatural theme. I am pretty sure one of the artists in that book was the same as drew these strips. Does anyone have the Dracula book? Annual sized but twice as thick. He may have signed his work in the book.

The Dracula book was just a collection of stories from the monthly magazine of the same name. The artists were all European (Esteban Marotto, Enric Sio, etc.) - I'm pretty sure Spooky wasn't one of them however. Nor was Keith Page.

As mentioned in the current issue of Crikey!, that book was a compilation of issues of NEL's ill-fated Dracula monthly comic, which featured European artwork.

Errrrrrrrr can I be "controversal" and state I (personally) don't think that artwork is all that "great" (sits back and awaits the onslaught) it looks pretty generic ( albeit profesional) to me for UK comics of the time - I'll get me coat!!

Well, like, that's just...your opinion...man...

Personally, I love it - and think anyone who read Gothic spook-tales in girls' comics would have clear and vivid memories of the artist's work. Anyway, like it or no the fact remains that we're no closer to unmasking his/her identity. Boo.

I have to admit this doesn't look like the best art I've seen, the faces do look rather spooky,but what do I know, the others were ok though.

Well to be fair I have to admit the art is pretty good (although not to my personal tastes) for the genre - I'm probably just a bit of a US comic Zombie when it comes to Horror/Gothic art (Warren, Marvel B&Ws, DC 70s colour/B&W books etc) maybe I need to widen my appreciation of this stuff published in the UK.

I like the art style. It's different from the "traditional" stuff of the time, has a nice flow to it, and the artist has an interesting inking technique. That's a nicely composed page with lots of movement and character to it.
