All of the copies of Dreadnought I own have green covers. Were the scans here from Black and white images? My local pub was called the Dreadnought and it was nice because all the local dockers drank there and it sold draught Mild for them, something you never see in the south of England any more - I love Mild beer. The Dreadnought ship featured in the Battle of Trafalgar. By coincidence the captain of the darts team in the Dreadnought was John Collingwood and Admiral Collingwood was once Captain of the ship of that name just before Trafalgar. The Dreadnought fired the first shot at the battle of Trafalgar. Admiral Collingwood took charge of the battle of Trafalgar after Nelson was shot and he is as much a hero as Nelson was.

No, Steve, they were colour images. As far as the first one is concerned, my expensive Canon Lide scanner lied by presenting the green cover as if it were brown. Actually I think it may have become colour blind as it has aged, perhaps in sympathy with my children, neither of whom could distinguish between green and brown. Clearly ashamed of itself, it made a better fist of the third one. The so-called Special War Supplement is brown, as it takes up the four middle pages, so there at least we can pat the scanner on the back.

I don't suppose your scanner has a sepia tone setting which is active? That would explain the brown colour. If not, time to go shopping for a new one I think!

I was being facetious, Digi. I don't really think there is much the matter with the scanner. It certainly caught the green well enough on the other scans I've posted recently, such as those on the Comics Britannia thread. The trouble is that the front covers are a washed-out green, as Steve would be able to confirm. Just for comparison purposes, here is a scan of the less washed-out back cover with an inside brown page overlapping on the left. If this doesn't prove my point, and given my champagne tastes and lemonade income, I'll have to start up a subscription for a more expensive machine. Perhaps you would like to start the ball rolling? Can I put you down for twenty quid?
