Roy of the Rovers one-off for World Cup
Roy of the Rovers one-off for World Cup
In the Metro on Tuesday, there was a small item in the sports section saying that there will be a one-off souvenir ROTR for the World Cup.
It has a picture of the cover, which says 5 classic comics strips and appears to be in the same format as last year's Egmont special.
Anybody seen details of this elsewhere ?

The "All About" series is a range of one-off Egmont specials. They did a Richard Hammond's Blast Lab one last month, and there'll be an iCarly one in July. They've also done Ben10 and Primeval, among others.
Doesn't look like that ROTR is the same format as before. Probably more like one of the old weekly comics.

Lew - Are they only available from WH Smith?
Thanks for the review.

No, I've seen previous "All About" magazines in supermarkets. Why would this one be any different?

It was a fair question as last year's Roy special was a WH Smith exclusive. Short answer is I don't know, but we'll find out next week.Digifiend wrote:No, I've seen previous "All About" magazines in supermarkets. Why would this one be any different?

Re: Roy of the Rovers one-off for World Cup
These days it's easier to sell it to the retail trade to do it as part of an ongoing series rather than as a stand alone title. One reason why Summer Specials faded out.wicked-stepladder wrote:I'm not quite sure what that "All About..." series is all about. It seemed to start off with one-off pre-school titles. A Roy of the Rovers title, aimed as the nostalgia market, does not seem to quite fit in.
It's not flawless, as we saw with the Egmont Classic Comics, which Smiths treated as one title and, I understand, reduced their orders based on how well the previous issues did. It's likely they might treat All About in the same way but at least it's a way to get some issues in the stores, rather than the resistance they'd encounter if it was a stand alone title.

No sign of this in my local Smiths either, hope it's not gonna another situation like we had with the Buster special last year.

Grabbed a copy in my local WHSmiths today. There was maybe half a dozen on the shelf & they were wedged between some Simpsons comics I think.

Did'nt see it in my local WH Smiths.

Didn't have it in my local WHS yesterday - though, to be fair, the "Prince of Persia" issue of All About... was still on the shelves.
