Maybe I'm biased Al,but I think Dan Dare is outdated and tired.A better option would be Starhawk or Adam Eterno to name but two.But of course ,the studios will go with the moneymaker.Nonetheless, hope it does well and doesn't repeat the disaster that was Judge Dredd!

It will inevitably be some "parallels to the iraq war", "healing the disconnects of 9/11" americanised mess with people screaming "NNNOOOOOO" at the sky underneath dripping pipes. Movin' right along...

A Dan Dare movie eh? What are the chances of it getting a tie-in comic?

You do know of course there's going to be new Dredd film? Wagner is more optimistic with the script than the Stallone one.

Strontium Dog would make a great Mad Max meets A Fistful of Dollars movie.

Hi Chris,I sure hope the new Dredd movie doesn't follow the same path as that awful Hulk remake of the remake! Hmmm,Strontium Dog eh? Dunno, his weird eyes would probably freak people out :-)

In addition to the one that's been running for the past several years?

I really enjoyed the last Hulk movie, thought it was one of the better Superhero versions ( the first one was simply awful ). I'm afraid I can't see Dan Dare being a massive box office hit (hope they don't camp it up like they did with Flash Gordon in the 80s - although that wasn't too bad IMHO) and I think it will be competing with the new multi million dollar Buck Rogers movie so mighy lose out. A comic might do well and hopefuly some reprint of the original at affordable prices for the casual reader.

Surely camp like Flash Gordon is the only way to play this Dan Dare film? (the yanks just didn’t get this humour that’s why it bombed over there). Who can’t imagine Brian Blessed as Sir Hubert “DARE’S ALIVE!”

Apparently, it will be after the Virgin comics Dan Dare, not the one of the Eagle. Must admit, I never read it but I was a big fan of the 2000AD Dan Dare (especially the earlier stories) which influenced Ennis, so I'm not too disappointed. I expect many Dare fans will be though.

I think Americans, like anyone, can understand "camp" humour. That's why the Batman tv series was such a huge success.

Perhaps they just felt that Flash Gordon was behind the times, as that period saw SF movies starting to take themselves more seriously with a different tone to them than the gaudy Flash Gordon could offer.

Perhaps it's an age thing but, apart from Ornella Muti, I never saw the appeal of the Flash Gordon movie myself. I think it'd be a mistake if the Dan Dare movie followed that style but it's such an archaic property that I don't know how they could handle it to make it work on screen.

That wasn't even a big hit for comics was it? What makes them think that it'd work as a movie for the worldwide general public? Time will tell I suppose. Perhaps they'll pitch it as a summer movie for younger kids and make Stripey the lead character.

Surely Rogue Trooper would be perfect for a movie? Okay he might not be as well known as Dredd or Dare, but genetically-modified downloadable fighters - sounds like a great idea eh Mr Cameron?

Way too late to have a Dan Dare movie in my opinion. They should have done one in the 1950's when someone like Richard Todd, hot foot from playing Guy Gibson in The Dambusters, could have given it a go complete with cardboard backdrops and wobbly scenery. Mind you I've never understood the fascination with the endless need to revive Dan Dare in any case. He's been venerated at the expense of other characters of his ilk far too may times. My, I do seem to be being tetchy this morning.
