'Classics from the Comics' - Not cancelled?

Post by Gary »

Just received the latest 'Classics from the Comics' (#175) and despite reports on the internet, there's no mention of it being the final issue. In fact, there's the usual ad for what's coming in next months issue, on sale November 10th!

Did DC Thomson actually announce the demise of 'Classics' or was it just a rumour that grew to be 'fact'?

I don't remember now, but i beleive the cancellation was sudden. So that issue might already have been ready to go and could possibly have even been printed before the cancellation was announced.

The editor himself told me it was being canceled. It must have been a last minute decision after issue 175 was sent to the printers.

I know that the cover is done before the rest of the comic because of the heavier paper so it has a longer lead-in time - was surprised there wasn't something on page 66 as a STOP PRESS item about the cancellation.

Thanks for that Lew. I had my hopes up 'cos there was no subscription refund enclosed but I guess that will come later. Shame though, as the last few issues since the revamp were great.

It was going to be 'Spotlight on 1955' but no info on which artists would have been featured/reviewed.

Then they probably had some of the content for 176 prepared as well. They should give it away as a free download via beanotown.com and dandy.com, IMHO. They could ask a question about something in issue 175 (which character is on a particular page) as a password so only loyal readers could access it.
