DVD repair kits

About 4 years ago I bought the DVD set of On The Buses. Over the intervening period I have been watching them as time allows. I recently got to the 7th and final volume (on 2 discs), but one of the discs won't play beyond the halfway point - there is a surface scratch. Obviously, it's way too late to return it to the shop, even if I still had the receipt. I've tried polishing the disc (from the centre outwards) but it still won't play to the end.

I've been looking at DVD scratch repair kits on the web. Apparently, after depositing a dollop of gloopy stuff on the scratch then polishing a few minutes later, the disc plays like new!

Has anybody used one of these kits successfully?

i have used kits like that before but it may have been a cheap one and i never had much joy with it ,but if you know a cex shop near you some of them have dvd repair resurfacing machines which cost 5 grand a pop which they can repair your disc for about £2.and the disc are like new cos i have bought some of the deleted disney ones in various cex shops which have had nasty looking scratches and they have come up a treat.not all cex shops have them but i know in london,camden town & wood green do.apparantly the machine scrapes off a whole layer and replaces it with a new one.

What on earth is a cex shop? (asking on behalf of every other forum member as well).

CeX - Consumer Electronics eXchange. Basically, it's a second hand video games, DVDs, and electronics shop.

Thanks, Bri. I was rather sceptical about those cheapo kits, and your comments suggest that I was right to be so inclined. I don't think I have a cex shop (fnarr fnarr) nearby, although I think a local pc repair shop may offer a similar service. Might be worth investigating, but I think I'll try the disc in my pc first - I may be lucky and be able to copy it.

I guess the moral is to check all one's discs immediately after purchase.

Game (The brand name) stores also can do it-at least my local one does
