And do I spy Korky the Cat (drawn by Jamie Smart) on the front too? Nice!
Nice one! Another classic updated for the new generation!
DandyComic @ Twitter wrote:@phil_creighton @ChorleyRobbie How could we not include Korky? The Dandy now lets YOU decide which characters get voted in - so pls feedback!
kevf wrote:Returning to the subject of how brilliant The Dandy actually is (which we want the world to know), I just indulged in this whole blog-full of Jamie Smart's Desperate Dan strips: http://www.fumboo.com/despdan/

They are brilliant. I confess I've hardly seen any of them because you could never thumb through Dandy Extreme in a shop because of its plastic bag, and Dan was never visible on the cover. If these were collected into a book it would be massive. (I mean sales wise, obviously).

I hope Dan (or anything else as exceptionally brilliant as these strips) is on the front cover of the new Dandy and that it is not obscured by free gifts in a big plastic bag.

Fingers remaining crossed.

No Dan on the cover. But he might be in future weeks judging by Korky's presence! As for a book, an Xtreme issue did give away the first year's worth of Jamie Smart Dan's, which is one of the few issues of Xtreme I bought.

No free gifts this week, so no bag, you'll be pleased to know.

That won't stop Digital Spy repeating it:

and adding:

"Publisher DC Thomson has also confirmed that Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson will appear on the cover of a future issue."
That wasn't confirmed at the time... but is now.

Not a "future" issue though. Tomorrow's issue! :-)

As the news is now out there I'm featuring my item on the relaunch tonight instead of tomorrow. It'll go live at 17:40, around the time that comics used to be advertised on tv way back when. ;-)

Guess who couldn't wait until his copy came through the post?

Getting home early, I though I would just nip up to my local WHSmiths and yes, seated in the middle of its peers (albeit back to front) was a large pile of the new Dandy. :D Actually, I couldn't believe how many there were (there must have been about 20-30 copies). In fact it reminded me of the heydays when a new comic struck the newstands.

Of course I bought a copy and whisked it off home for a read and, I must say, found it bloody brilliant! I loved the new strips and the comic itself was full of excitement. I just loved it.

Now I can't wait for next week's issue. ;)

One last thing: Guess what was right next to the Dandy on the shelves? Yep, a few copies of the old Xtreme. Quite sad really and I could only assume that the staff thought it was a different comic else they would have removed it?

Welcome back, Dandy. You have been missed.

On sale to-morrow

The first new-style issue of the grand picture-story paper

THE DANDY

With stories and funny illustrations by some of the cleverest artists of the day

Remember to ask your newsagent for THE DANDY

Priced 360d
Is how they may have publicised it 100 years ago. But anyway, i'll certianly be parting with my thirty shillings to-morrow (and rather more for my car tax at the same time), always worth supporting the launch of "proper" comics!

Myself (and I'm sure my fellow graphic humourists) are most humbly indebted to you Sir. May God speed you in your journey to your newsagent and I look forward to your opinion of our brightly coloured new periodical via the electronic telegram machine.

Calm down, calm down. It's not the first time Noel's been in a DC Thomson comic. He was of course in... (anybody?)...

That doesn't surprise me. Superman Legends has relaunched as DC Universe Presents, keeping the same numbering. They were both out alongside each other in WHSmith last week, and just like what you saw with Dandy, the staff probably thought they were different comics. I can understand staff making that mistake with Dandy actually, after all, there's Beano and BeanoMAX, which unlike Dandy and Dandy Xtreme, are different comics.

Rather sloppy article by the Daily Star. 'The iconic Dandy character has had a freaky makeover which makes him look slightly loony. It has enraged fans who have followed the cow pie-loving star for decades.'

Doesn't even say who these fans are, or that they're probably the opinions of adults who've not picked the comic up in years. But then, it is the Daily Star, and clearly haven't read the brilliant scripts Jamie has provided Dan for more than TWO YEARS...

:x I hate people who don't do any research. Somebody should register on their MyStar thing and post a comment correcting them.

When I read the Daily Star article, I just burst out laughing.

Obviously this Gemma Wheatley didn't have a clue, got her dad to take a look at the new Dandy and wrote an article based on the fact that he didn't like the 'new' Desperate Dan.

Comical.
