The DANDY is back!
Re: The DANDY is back!
My 14 year old son doesn't usually read comics (I know, I know but what can you do), prefering computers and video games.
I checked out the new Dandy in WH Smith's yesterday and decided to pick up a copy for him, as it looked like the kind of thing that would appeal to him rather than me (who grew up in the 1960s and is already missing 'Classics from the Comics'). I was suprised when he sat down to actually read it (I think Harry Hill being in it was his main motivation) and even more suprised when, after finishing it, he declared to everyone in the house that it was 'a brilliant issue!' He followed this up with an announcement that he was going to keep getting this comic. Wow!
Later in the evening, he was still talking about it and re-reading it, calling it 'immense'. Previously, he would pick up a copy of 'classics' and only have a brief flick through the pages. The old characters that we grew up with meant nothing to him but the inclusion of current TV characters in the new Dandy is what grabbed his attention.
I think the people behind the new look Dandy have got it spot on for the kids today and have a winner on their hands if my son's reacion is anything to go on.

I love the feel of the paper of the new Dandy, oh and the strips as well.

And there are no staples, don't forget that!steelclaw wrote:I love the feel of the paper of the new Dandy, oh and the strips as well.
This is great news, if people can get to see it, they may end up liking it!Gary wrote: I think the people behind the new look Dandy have got it spot on for the kids today and have a winner on their hands if my son's reacion is anything to go on.

I don't know about the logistics but I'd love to see that Harry Hill strip carried in animated form on one of his TV shows - rather like The Simpsons on The Tracey Ulman Show. This sort of cross-fertilization could boost The Dandy in a way that point-of-sale displays and items on Breakfast TV never will!

You mean as an insert on TV Burp? It would take at least a year I reckon, based on the time between Dennis being announced and getting aired. Pitch it to ITV!

Re: The DANDY is back!
my local whs still had the same amount of copies on the shelf today after i bought it wed, it doesnt seem to have sold any unless whs is keeping the shelf well stocked which is unusual for them.
Re: The DANDY is back!
Hopefully it was restocked. Check again on Tuesday, the day before the next issue is due out. If it's the same then, then we worry about the quantity of unsold copies. They could sell lots on the weekend... it's the only time some people (traditional 9-5 workers for instance) get chance to go shopping.
