Does anyone else have a soft spot for all those dubbed euro serials like The Flashing Blade, Dessert Crusader, Robinson Crusoe etc. If the plot got boring you could always laugh along with the lack of lip-synch to the dialogue.

That was happening as late as the 90s. For Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the footage of Rita Repulsa (and the rangers and zords, but no lip synching issues there) was taken from a Japanese show called Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger. Because they always used the same few clips, it was never lip synched. They fixed this in season 2 by using new American footage though.

Just bought this 5 DVD box set for £5.86 including p&p from Amazon.
The first episode was shown a few years ago on BBC.

Cheers Raven, last night I must have spent around an hour looking at DVDs to buy on ebay and Amazon typing in 'Look Back' and even looked at the networkdvd site to see if a new one was coming out but didn't found it, I will buy them next week, a good price as well.

I actually don't remember it, but I'm sure I must have seen one of them at the time maybe I didn't watch(I think I've mentioned this before )tv as much as I thought I did in the 1970s, but I'm going to make up for it now.

I recently bought "The Brokers Man" starring Kevin Whately! In case folks don't recall it, Kevin played an ex policeman now an insurance investigator. He was aided! by Al Hunter "Vinny" and Sarah Jane Potts "Harriet Potter"

Al Hunter co devised the series and also co-wrote some episodes! There were two seasons. The first was three two-parters which run as three 80 minute episodes. Series two was changed to six regular 50 minute eps!

Another change in series two was the replacing of Sarah Jane Potts as "Harriet Potter" by actress Charlotte Bellamy (Who is just superb in the second season) in that role. Bellamy plays the character Laurel Thomas currently in "Emmerdale" The characters maiden name was Potts! Coincidence!!?

Anyhow, the "Brokers Man" is a pretty decent watch in my view, though the initial episode of the series is rather slow and the final one of season two is pretty daft! But 7 out of 10 in my view!

I have the Adam Adamant set, Steelclaw...I think it's a Dutch import with English subtitles. Episode One has a very clear pic if I recall correctly.

It's a bit like the Avengers, [the main reason I took an interest in this] although the BBC production values fall short of the all-filmed later Avengers episodes.

A fine curio piece from the 60s, however.


On the subject of Retro TV, all I see these days are vintage programmes : lately it's been old shows like BENNY HILL saucy and sexist, but this was how it was back then.

Also Monty Python's Flying Circus [the original BBC shows]: gloriously eccentric! I also had the foresight to compile my own home-made archive of the entire GOODIES before the plug was pulled on youtube. I can only watch these on a small computer screen, but quality is pretty good overall.

I am totally out of touch with modern TV, and I only know about stuff like X-Factor as it is never off the front page of the tabloids.

I've watched 4 of the Adam adamant's so far, it's ok, yes ISPY the first one was clear the outside scenes are a bit blurry though.

I have never watched X Factor and never will, New Faces & Opportunity Knocks were bad enough which is what it is.

what i want to know is where is the rest of grange hill series 5 onwards bbc.at least finish the tucker years.& end with the zammo drugs year.
also just bought the red hand gang and cant believe how much o it i remember it was like i watched it last week.

Children of the Stones episode 1 is brilliant might will buy the whole series in the new year.

Children of the Stones episode 1 is brilliant might will buy the whole series in the new year.

I've been working my way through these.

Yes, Children of the Stones is one of the best of its kind (isn't the full release deleted at the moment, though?).

See what you think of episode one of King of the Castle. Gritty, spooky stuff up the steps of a high rise. (And a comic is involved at one point!)

The Siege of Golden Hill and Soldier and Me are also good.

Talent show Anything You Can Do is so weird and grim, it's hilarious at times.

I do also recommend that Shadows series 1 DVD.
