Retro TV
Re: Retro TV
Another culty/pop culture link to the series is that obscure British psychedelic band Arzachel (Steve Hillage, Dave Stewart, Clive Brooks and Mont Campbell) - or one of them - was watching the programme on TV, and later, from memory I think, they recorded a version of its theme tune for their album.
You can trip out to their slower, psychedelic version on YouTube:
Arzachel - Queen Street Gang ( 1969)

(The theme was actually 'Soul Thing' a.k.a. 'Funky Fanfare' by Keith Mansfield, Grandstand theme and library music composer, which has apparently turned up in a couple of Quentin Tarantino films and in the background of sundry other things.)

Psychedelic. So much so, it made me dizzy as I scrolled the page!Re: Retro TV
It gave me a headache, too. Can't you replace it with a gentler psychedelic image before it gives someone a fit?

Yes, an 18 year old playing a 14 or 15 year old, although she still looked 18, and I was only 11 myself.Digifiend wrote:Wasn't Cheryl a few years older than her character?

Thought so. Did they really think plaited hair would her look younger? Seems she was there as eye candy for the boys, and it sounds like it worked!

Re: Retro TV
David Jason's brother - Arthur White - was one of the villian's in the `Queen St Gang!
Someone mentioned Ace of Wands! Series 1 was fairly routine but season 2 had a couple of bizarre stories "Joker" and "The Eye of Ra" Series 3 was mixed depending on what you want from it- personally I loved (and still do) the two P.J Hammond stories "Peacock Pie" and "The Beautiful People" The latter had a conclusion fairly similar to Sparky Comic strip "I. Spy" `Operation I. Spy` pretty similar!
Oh! Someone also mentioned "Dead Of Night" 1972 only B/W now! The stones that cried "Not The Light!" really scared my sister- spooked me a bit as well!

Or it's a mere £17.89 or less from Zavvi, The Hut or Sendit's websites now.steelclaw wrote: Amazon have the whole 'Tomorrow People# series for £22.44 used or new from £25.97.
The commentaries - on all 68 episodes - are a real hoot.

Re: Retro TV
BBC changed the advertised eps in some cases! It was good to see the 1971 ep with Patrick Troughton as "Dr Petal" The ep known as "The Baddies" I don't think it has been seen since 1971!

According to Robert Ross's first book on them, it was last shown in 1975. I thought it was the worst Goodies episode I've ever seen, though; embarrassingly bad! It's a missed opportunity them not showing some of the strongest Goodies from their peak period a few years later, when the show was much better.

A pity "Kung Fu Kapers" was `bumped` By most concensus - perhaps their greatest (Outside Xmas Specials) ep?

Re: Retro TV
Is anyone here old enough to recall "Object Z"? My view, a truly underatted Sci-Fi classic of 1960s childrens TV!

Only thing Network-wise lately has been Spring and Autumn series 1, a 1973 Thames sitcom curio starring Jimmy Jewel. Also a couple of Hancock and Steptoe and Son DVDs which suddenly became very good bargains!
Next thing that's a must for me from Network - as announced so far - is Shadows series 2 in May. Maybe also The Boy Merlin complete series, and Frankie Howerd at ITV the same month.
Hopefully they'll announce some more Look Back type stuff soon.
Bought any yourself? Still thinking of getting Shadows series 1?
