The DFC rises again... as PHOENIX
The breaking news in British comics today is that The DFC is to return, appropriately titled Phoenix!
No more news yet, other than what's here...

...but I'm sure we'll hear of developments soon!

OK folks, come on, get your insults in while I'm trying to figure out what DFC was. Darlington Football Club? A fast food chain? Derek in Fool's Costume? The shame of it, I'm going to be a comic. I won't rise to the bait but let me say that if there are any stories about me in there, they'll be fiction, pure invention, lies I tell you, lies.....Lew Stringer wrote:The breaking news in British comics today is that The DFC is to return, appropriately titled Phoenix!

The DFC stood for The David Fickling Comic, if you was serious about trying to figure out what it was.
Re: The DFC rises again... as PHOENIX
I wasn't, but then I didn't actually know either, so thanks for the information, Digi. Perhaps you could let me know though when Phoenix gets published. I do have Lew's blog in my Favourites list but I don't in fairness look at it very often.Digifiend wrote:The DFC stood for The David Fickling Comic, if you was serious about trying to figure out what it was.

More information on The Phoenix:
http://forbiddenplanet.co.uk/blog/2011/ ... e-phoenix/
UPDATE: I should add that I've just read that apparently The Phoenix is NOT a revival of The DFC. It just had an announcement party hosted by the ex-DFC editors for the ex-DFC contributors. But it's an independent comic, not a revival.
So there we are then.

So will any of the properties of the DFC be returning? Will we see Fish Head Steve or anything return? I stated FHS as it's being put together as an animation so if that takes off it will be an asset

No idea. I suspect the reason they're stating it's not a DFC revival is for legal reasons, so whichever strips are revived will, I assume, be dependent on whether Random House still have any claims to them.Steve Henderson wrote:So will any of the properties of the DFC be returning?
I think we'd be best to sit back and await developments as this is really only in the very early stages yet.

Emma Vieceli says:
NB: Shouldn't this be in the main forum section? It's very important news!
From here: http://www.sweatdrop.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13547It will absolutely be on paper, haha
the most mind-meltingly amazing thing about the Phoenix is in the funding actually....the funding this time is private, so not reliant on a larger company, and much of apparently it came from the parents of DFC readers!!!
Isn't that just enough to make you cry with joy?
It's a true show of support and defiance...and it makes me feel quite choked up to think of it.
Talk about a work of heart.

Do you mean the general discussion section? I thought it might get lost there so I put it under the DFC's own category for easy reference.felneymike wrote:

Anyway, it sounds like it'll be a year before the comic comes out so there's no urgency about the news yet.

Do you think The Phoenix is aware of The Phoenix, Ireland's best selling satire
magazine? http://www.thephoenix.ie/phoenix/welcome.do
It's their equivalent of Private Eye, and I see it a lot on my frequent trips
over there. I doubt the existence of The Phoenix will much affect sales of The
Phoenix though, since The Phoenix is on sale on newsstands and in newssagents,
with posters advertising it all over town, whereas The Phoenix will probably be
available only by sending a postal order in a stamped self-addressed envelope
from an address in the home counties.

Just bought the entire DFC from eBay, loads available from the publisher:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DFC-Issue-1-43-Co ... 0568966125
Not bad value at all at just a touch over £50 delivered.
Excellent, my boy will be pleased, I have teased him with the news of The Phoenix and he was chuffed with the idea of an adventure comic as opposed to the funnies we are left with at the moment.
Have to admit, looking forward to reading them with him myself!
