I decided last year to gut my collection (6k plus) of comics - I tried to give a load of them away cheap, then for free but got no takers (well I sold about 300 of my better newer US comics & some 60s/70s US/UK comics for a good price) as charity shops , hospitals etc were not interested in anything but annuals (one of the things I wanted to keep). So I decided to list and then safely box all the comic I didn't want that were (to me at least) not valuable and will put them on Ebay later as sets (20 for a £1 ) and then boxed my good / valuable comics that I don't want/collect and will try flog or swap them to specialist shops as 1 has shown an interest in this later (I would rather have 1 old "Monsters on the Prowl" or Archie etc comic than 20 Image comics, or assorted 80s 2000ADs that I don't have an interest in) A result of starting this process has meant I've cut right back on buying new comics, my loft (where I keep most of my comics) is now tidy (with only 3 large boxes of comics) and it can go back to being a nice additional room, and more importantly I can see and enjoy the books I do like (and collect these again) it's the best thing I've done in ages - oh and my girlfriend is pretty happy also lol

E-bay is handy for finding stuff you know you need but the thing I really love about marts is finding things I didn't know I needed - especially if I didn't even know they existed at all! :)

"Oh Paw I meant to ask - I missed the Glasgow Comic Mart was it good and is it back to being on a regular schedule again? Is it in Hillhead?" Starboy.

It's now in the Queen Margaret Union at the Uni - on the 44/44a route.
Don't know about regular but there will be more. I think there was a disagreement with the library folk, hence the new venue. The hall is a bit tight so not a lot of space in the aisles. This isn't a big mart but at least we have one again. There is a con coming up by the same folk who run the mart. More details to follow if others bother to tell me. One worrying thing was the lack of info. on Collectormania, with rumours circulating that it might not be on in Glasgow this year.
Should add that there were a few small press people there and some British stuff, so not just your usual American 50p boxes. I saw some lovely silver age as well.

Thanks for the info' I'll keep an eye out for the next one - I heard about the Mart only from 2 guys talking in A1 Comics in Glasgow but it was that day and I was meeting friends - good that there may be others I remember the time Glasgow and surrounding areas had a few marts, cons etc. Good to hear it's not all 50p US comics that's a killer for any Mart really.

Unlike the little old lady with bulging carrier bags arrested by a security guard in the Asda car park as she was making her way home. Her apparently reasonable excuse was The Lord helps those who help themselves. Laudable honesty, paw. Well done!

Took delivery of issues 521 - 556 of The Boys' Friend Library from 1936 today. They are the publisher's own volumes and cost a bomb, but I now have a couple of duplicates I can sell on. Except one of them is a reprint but I have the original appearance from probably around 1910... lets see what happens XD

That would have been the final weekly?

The final issue would have looked like after it had gone monthly.

Another Birthday week issue (w/e 20/2/65) added to my collection, but not necessarily from my want list on my website blog.

I purchased the 20/2/65 issue of Lion.

Edit: Unfortunately I didn't. As I was about to pay for it, it turned out that the item had been sold. Oh well, I'll probably strike that for sure sometime down the track.

Went to the London postcard fair yesterday (it also has ephemera sellers) picked up ten 1949 Film Funs, 10 1905 Illustrated Chips and 20 early 70s USA Sunday Funnies sections. Plus 21 copies of Goal magazine - all from Ken Graham. Someone had a 1920 Playbox annual for a couple of quid but I no longer collect annuals.

They had Beezer no. 1 on ebay which finished last night - it went for £21. There were no bids until about 20 seconds from the end when two people bid. I was put off by the condition.
