Re: Fan art
You're so kind, Freddy! If it took me 'til 21 before I sold any cartoons, you've got loads of time in front of you: hopefully you can beat me and flog some before the old age of 21!
I was 22 and a half when I first sold strips and stories to any publishers.

Re: Fan art

5 mins, totally in Photoshop. Obviously not precise enough, but thought decent enough for 1st attempt.

very good for 5 minutes, MMi!
Re: Fan art
Well, I just realised that the thread is called 'Fan Art' and all I've been doing is posting up my own stuff. So, I thought I'd have a crack at copying something. First time doing that since I was a kid. I used to have a 'white' wardrobe, but I covered it in black marker with my favourite characters from my comic collection. My mum and dad has still kept the doors of that old wardrobe.Digifiend wrote:Seconded. Nice work!
Oh, and by the way, I've forgotten the dots Gnasher's face. Urggh!

Another one done entirely in Photoshop. Wacom tablet users will spot how my lines are wobbly. This is invariably due to the smoothness of the tablet and pen. There's something about pencil/pen on paper that allows you to draw a truer stroke.

Re: Fan art
Looks good mmi! I also have a tablet which i use sometimes, however i much prefer the pen and paper! Yet again my tablet is a cheap trust one which you have to swap batteries for every few days
Anyway, after seeing mmi's stuff i too realised this thread was created for fan-art, so i threw up a bit of andy fanton fan-art in a couple of minutes! could've done a better job at colouring, but i was in a rush, and it doesn't look THAT bad...

Re: Fan art
I've never actually shown any of my artwork on here, so I thought I'd change that.
It's a Billy Whizz piece (you wouldn't guess, would you!), and it's a recreation of the 1990s header by David Parkins where he rushes across the top like a lightning bolt, which I assume relates to the first strip where his tracksuit appears. I drew it about eighteen months ago, and it was quite a challenge, as there's a lot of jagged bits. Sorry it's not very big, it is my first go at putting something up on here.

Looks good to me, Jonny...hand-crafted, and not computerized!

Re: Fan art
Disrespect? Because of it being made digital? no worries! I have a tablet, and i liked it for a little while, but i find it much more rewarding and enjoyable using the pencil pen and paper, and the only thing i do digitally is colouring, and even sometimes i do that by hand! Also, most digital work nowadays in the beano and dandy looks crude, and while some are good that puts me off. However work like mmi's, is really good! Its just the stuff that over-uses the capabilities of a computer (like jimmy dewar, artist of 'Max' in beano max) or under-uses it (like the artist of Cocoa in the whizzer and chips) are horrific.

Re: Fan art
Even I am 'going digital', young Freddy, in terms of use of colour and effects. I want to keep the drawings on paper first, though...over on CCGB recently there was a raging debate on the merits of drawing by hand vs onscreen , using a Cintiq.
Cintiqs look cool and sexy, but I enjoy the act of just using a pencil and paper to knock out quick roughs, and I don't want to pay 1000 quid for the privelige of stopping doing the drawings the way I enjoy doing them.

I'm now going to put the cat amongst the pigeons and put up a drawing of Billy that I created last night using Microsoft Paint!
