Yesterday's Watchdog on BBC1, one of the Rogue Traders presenters had a copy of the Dandy, issue 3522 (19 Feb 2011).

Why?

Rogue Traders tends to feature a bit of jokey banter. It was in one of those sequences when they got the comic out. Might not have been bought damaged, as he had it inside his jacket - could easily get creased in there.

On Friday's BBC4 documentary 'Annie Nightingale - Bird on the Wireless' there was a section where she spoke to Mick Jones, ex of The Clash, in a room where he houses his various collections.

Well that's a case of Speak of the devil, because we were just discussing that Wham and Pow annual a few days ago!

That Skipper annual aint half bad either! It appeared in 1948/9 even though The Skipper stopped in 1940. The editor of The Skipper did say that it would be back "one day", he probably didn't quite mean a single annual at the other end of the decade but at least the promise was kept!

With an eight year gap, I bet most of the kids who read that Skipper annual weren't readers of the original story paper. The original readers would've most likely grown up by then. Of course paper rationing is the reason it was never relaunched - by the time they could launch new titles again, it had been over a decade, so they launched new titles like The Topper instead of reviving the war victims.

In an episode of the kids series Rainbow from 27th October 1989 called "Zipman and Bobbin", Geoffrey, dressed as "The Joker" (in what is, it has to be said, is a pretty good copy of Jack Nicholson's costume and makeup considering what a tiny budget Rainbow must have had) has stolen all the comics in the world. Bungle, as sidekick Sourface, is laughing (strangely) at a Spiderman comic, but you can see a Nutty in the background

Indeed it was! The very early episodes had a different `Bungle` costume!

1989? Those comics are old props then, Nutty merged with Dandy in 1985!

The spiderman comic is even older, it's a copy of the UK's "Spider-Man Comic Weekly" from 1974

Peter mentioned this on page 4, but here's a screencap from One Foot in the Algarve (the One Foot in the Grave Xmas special), where Victor has brought a suitcase full of junk on holiday instead of their towels and sheets. There's a bundle of Beezers (which also get a namecheck in the dialogue)

I was watching 'Shadows' from the 'Look-Back DVD the girl picked up a pile of comics.

I realise it's quite a while since this was posted, but that issue of "Spider-Man Weekly" is issue 143 from 1975
