Spanish reprints of British strips

While preparing a blog post on Calculator Kid, I did a Google search and found this Spanish comics forum. On this thread they're discussing British strips that were reprinted in Spanish titles, and included are some interesting examples. I don't speak Spanish but you can get the gist.

i dont speak spanish either but on my laptop if you click the right mouse button there is bit that says transalate with bing and the whole page comes out in english.very handy tool that.they called it charlie and his calculator & i think thats the first time i have seen it in colour from a comic or mag called Zipi y Zape No. 599 (November 1984):

If you use Google Chrome or Google Toolbar, it automatically asks if you want to translate using Google Translate. Same effect as that Bing tool you mentioned. Microsoft (Bing's owner) and Google always steal each other's ideas...

Anyway in the girl's comics forum there's various discussions of British strips being reprinted (and even continued!) in Spain

Yeah that is something that is only recently being discovered by collectors. A more famous example is of Janus Stark which continued on ( after its demise in British comics ) in France and being newly written and drawn by its original British creators. Even old Adam Eterno had new covers created by foreign Artists albeit it for reprints inside. And Kelly's Eye had many new covers drawn for various overseas anthologies.

Yes, it's great. I could never find enough individual British comics to read many complete stories of J.S. or A.E. etc. and years ago, in Paris, I discovered wee second handbookshops with bundles of French reprints ,many, as you say, with new covers. Also, Fantasmak is a specialist shop near to Gare du Nord and has floor to ceiling pocket size comics many of which are British reprints.
And if any of you are in Palma de Mallorca on holiday, there are a couple of sources for digest comics. The flea market has moved out of town, but it's well worth finding it and checking out the comic stalls.

Yap, we did have the luck to enjoy many British artists in our comics: Reg Partlett was always there with all his characters (well, most of them), Bessy Bunter, Billy Bunter, etc., and mainly it happened with all the romance stories for girls, but them most of the mwere done by Spanish artists that sold their work through the agencies to the British comic market and was bought again by Spain, as is the case of Purita Campos, Trini Tinture, Victor Ramos, Ana Rodriguez, Comos, Edmond, Busom, Badia, etc., etc..
Just feel free to ask for any translation or questions. Also I am a member of that forum.

We've been in the Netherlands on holiday and, of course, I had to visit some comic shops. Apart from the great choice of old Dutch comics I also saw Robot Archie and Billy Bunter, translated into Dutch. So it happened all over Western Europe. Also one shop had a pile of Western Picture Libraries, all Kit Carson, again in Dutch and a slightly different size.

Paw, did you happen to make a note of the name and addresses of these Dutch comic shops?
I'm planning a trip there in the Autumn and would like to pay a visit to any shops that sell old Dutch/European comics. I've read about the Lambiek shop, but haven't visited.
Any tips?

I remember an article in an old 2000ad annual about Spanish and French 2000ad reprints. Slaine is widely available across Europe, and is a french company starting to do the Rebellion Case files in france.

Dave, you ask about comic shops in Netherlands. Well, there is a list, not necessarily up to date but with some good addresses:-

The shop in Hoorn was excellent, with a huge selection of old Dutch comics and new graphic novels. There were also reprints of old British strips. This is, "Het Gele Tekken", in Grote Oost, Hoorn. Half an hour in the train from Amsterdam.
I've been in Lambiek a few times over the years and have occasionally bought stuff. Again, a big stock of old and new and worth a look. But I prefer, "Nou Moe" and you'll find the address on the list. This shop is small and packed with stuff - you'll need a fair while to rake through the stock. This was where I found the Cowboy reprints.
There is a shop in Alkmaar but he mostly stocks new stuff and games. Also in Delft and Leiden, I've found a couple of lovely comic shops. There are many more all over Amsterdam and Netherlands but don't expect cheap, especially for old collectibles.
So, chasing down markets and book fairs is always worth while.
As you probably know, it's easy to get around, being a small country with an efficient public transport system. Not cheap, but reliable. Good luck.
