Interesting site, although I was amused by the comment about sixties Marvels: "Looking back, we can see how much Marvel's work improved from these juvenile Thor, Iron Man and X-Men stories."
Marvel improved after the early Lee/Kirby classics? I don't think so.

I meant how Lee & Kirby improved. Something Stan pointed out himself. Take a look at the first appearances of Thor, then take a look further down the line at, say, the Black Galaxy, Coming of Hercules etc.

Ah right, sorry. Agree as regards Thor and Iron Man, but X-Men was always a second rate strip throughout the sixties in my opinion. (Not too keen on it today either.
)

Nice site I'm a big fan of UK Marvel, especially the 70s weeklies - Have to agree with Lew re the X Men, even when Neal Adams did his magic on them I was never a big fan I dont quite get the attraction to them at all (although Dave Cockrum and John Byrne in 70s - 80s) did some great work. i'll enjoy looking at this site late - well done

The big problem with the X-Men is the central premise doesn't work because they're part of the Marvel Universe. What I mean is; why would the public fear and hate mutant superheroes but not the FF or the Avengers? The public don't know their origins so they wouldn't know if the characters were born with their powers or not!

I know it goes against the 'truth' but I prefer the idea that mutants have some pheremones (or such) that makes people afraid subconciously. Then again, I also like the idea Thor controls the storm and not his hammer.

Thankfully, Bananaman is rooted far more in reality.

Well, in fiction we can only go on what's on the page. As far as I recall there was no explanation as to why people hated Iceman but not the Human Torch (for example).

Yep. I am another Marvel UK fan. I am getting closer to a 1972-1996 set. My set ends with the Panini take over due to storage space limitations.Cap Haggis wrote:Nice site I'm a big fan of UK Marvel, especially the 70s weeklies - Have to agree with Lew re the X Men, even when Neal Adams did his magic on them I was never a big fan I dont quite get the attraction to them at all (although Dave Cockrum and John Byrne in 70s - 80s) did some great work. i'll enjoy looking at this site late - well done

Earl.
Incidentally Panini are launching a new Collectors Edition next month. Titled Marvel Legends it features three regular strips: Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America. With that line up it's almost a revival of Fantastic!

Earl - I have a lot of UK Marvel weeklies (some monthlys) I am looking to get rid of (not enough space and concentrating of specific runs rather than all of them). I have a lot of the latter issues (1976 onwards some earlier paper covers) various titles, let me know if you are looking for any particular titles or issues (your's for postage if you want them)
