i have been on holiday for last 3 weeks and had no internet i even missed the riots which were right on my doorstep
just seen lews blog now i must have missed that one 1st time round,i will have to try and get it and hope its a sucess maybe they can do a distribution deal with someone like tesco,whs or even forbidden planet.

Issue 2 of Comic Football from 2011, and a few issues of The Boys Friend from 1911! Including the coronation issue of George V, for real this time!

Went to the London Postcard fair at the Royal National. I went in with £100 spending money and that was gone at the first stall I came to. He had a box file of around 200 original cartoons and roughs by a cartoonist called James Symington. He was asking £3 each but let me have the lot and the box file for £100. There were also letters from publications accepting or rejecting his cartoons invluding TV Times. I got a bound set of four issues of Chums from October 1894 for £2. The following for 50p each: The Champion 1480 dated 10/6/50, The Gem 1528 29/5/37, The Gem 1110 25/5/29, The Champion 1496 30/9/50, Boys Own Paper 26 12/7/1879, The Schoolgirl 515 10/6/39, The Gem 1560 8/1/38, The Schoolgirl's Own Library 178 "Friends of the Wildwoods and 197 "Rivals for Ballet Fame" no dates given. Also picked up for £2 each Smash! numbers 17, 19, 24, 25, 28, 29, 30, 101, 108, 109, Pow! 55 & 57 Lion 1/3/69, Valiant 5/10/63 and Misty 22/7/78 & 24/6/78. And with Arsenal losing 8-2 a pretty good day.

I'll scan a few of the Symington cartoons tomorrow when i have sorted them as quite a few have rough copies plus the finished copy which I'll show together.

At the weekend I was at Collectormania in Glasgow and although there were a couple of dealers with oldish British stuff, I didn't find much of interest to me. What I did buy were 2 Dells, Jace Pearson and Cheyenne.
Yesterday a few of us got together for a good, old moan and a look at some old comics and I came away with 5 issues of The Thriller (incl. a Mr. Preed story and a Saint story) and 13 issues of The Champion from '52 & '53. They are a bit smelly so I'm going to try those sheets recommended elsewhere.
Also at the mart were the usual dodgy dvd tables and again, public domain and non p.d. comics on disc.

Do you mean the tumble dryer sheets? It was ages ago I mentioned them. Amazed anyone remembered. I have season one dvd of Cheyenne. I loved those sixties western shows. Clint Walker is still around of course.

Picked up some beautiful condition Wham! annuals from a charity shop yesterday, 1966 and 1971. £1 each!

Well It's not a patch on the Boys' Friend of 100 years ago!
It's alright though, it's a bit like the modern Dandy but all Football related. I was worried that it would be full of football in-jokes about players that would go over my head, but actually the humour is pretty universal. There's also a few serial strips, two comedy ones (including one set in the future with a planet where they worship Maradona!) and a dramatic one which is, ahem, "not exactly" Roy of the Rovers standard.
There's also some feature pages with team profiles, a pretty lazy "noticeboard" page with "lookalikes" and spot the difference things. There's also a big double-page comparison of great players. It's mostly comic strips though!

Anyway I have got a subscription (penance for never getting a DFC one!), it's only £19.50 for a year!

Starting to get more and more into the broons and oor wullie and bought book 11 the early years..£2.69
seeing the prices of these books in real life this seems the best way to see them..

I have a lot to collec I only have three The Broons and Oor wullie book..also have the 1st editions...I'm amazed has said before at the detail Dudley puts into his work..so glad DC Thomson has found a market for them...wish Desperate Dan reprint books would also be popular...or even Biffo!!

Ken H sure drew the characters well he is great at the female form..working as a volenteer at Oxfam bookshop is great for getting and reading annuals..was reading a Ken The Broons book at the till in the quiet moments..also saw Robert nixons version of Oor Wullie..also good..But who can beat Dudley..

Today I discovered a new Victor compliation book has come out! This time it contains various stories from Victor annuals down the years (presumably mostly the earlier ones). It is £12.99 though, which seems a bit steep seeing as the annuals are more "available" than issues of the comic. I bought it anyway in the hope that there will be another book with stories reprinted from the weekly (which also seem to have had better artwork overall).
I also got 9 issues of The Boys Friend Library bound into two books, ranging from 1908 to 1916, the latest 4 Commando's and some more Boys Friend's from 1911

I went to the London Comic Mart today which is under new management as it seems the previous organiser, Rob Barrow, who has been running these marts since the mid 70s, is awaiting sentencing on Paedophilia charges. Anyway I didn't buy many comics - just a handful of odds and ends (see that prolific artists thread for more) but picked up two small original cartoons one by Malcolm Judge and one by Bill Ritchie.
