At least it ran to a proper conclusion. Not many humour strips get a proper ending, as has been discussed here before.WizzKid97 wrote:One which I loved was Robot on the Run which is funnier in my opinion than Nuke Noodle but both are fantastic! I cant remember this ending, i do know The Mighty Bork! had a proper ending in May, though i think that strip was supposed to end. Why would older readers even be interested in it?Digifiend wrote:At least it ran to a proper conclusion. The point I was trying to make is that, seeing as you've declared that you find a tired old knock knock joke that probably wouldn't make the cut in a box of Christmas crackers both "very exciting" and "hilarious", I don't think the author of a genuinely clever and amusing story is going to be too disappointed that you don't like his work. You're just not his target audience. He's aiming for readers with a more sophisticated sense of humour.yanobandy wrote: Why would anyone not be happy someone found his strip funny?
But if this episode has taught me anything, it's what a difficult job it must be being Dandy editor. To me, the mini-strips are barely worth a glance, they're just filler, especially ones like this: ancient jokes stuck onto a strip with a celebrity head. But here you are, declaring it the highlight of the comic! We're all different, I suppose, and there's no right or wrong. As I say, tough job, being the Dandy editor.
On the other hand, if this is a wind-up...
(I do actually find it a little difficult to believe that there is actually a real person over the age of 4 in existence who genuinely finds that strip "very exciting" and "hilarious". It's the "very exciting" bit that gets me the most, and makes me smell a rat.)

Seriously, calling it rubbish? That's just mean and uncalled for.
And it was funny, but a different sort of 'funny'.
Look, you may have your own opinions but remember, so do we. Besides, Will is a member of this forum and I reckon he'll be quite upset that you called his stuff rubbish.

Re: This weeks Dandy
I take the "exciting" bit back, i was just trying to hype the strip up without repeating myself. But, remember, The Dandy is a children's comic, and children want laughs. They dont want spoofs of horror movies. And i'd love to be the dandy's editor.Ginger wrote:The point I was trying to make is that, seeing as you've declared that you find a tired old knock knock joke that probably wouldn't make the cut in a box of Christmas crackers both "very exciting" and "hilarious", I don't think the author of a genuinely clever and amusing story is going to be too disappointed that you don't like his work. Really? Well, that's your opinion. But I honestly don't find it funny nor exciting. Rocky's Horror Show was exciting for me. 'Are you Ready for the Question, Noel?' is boring, I love Wayne's artwork and art-wise the story doesn't fail to impress but storywise. very weak.yanobandy wrote:And Are you ready for the question, noel is very funny and exciting, just what i want.
Re: This weeks Dandy
He was shown quite happily walking off into the sunset on a paradise world, IIRC. Yeah, Bork certainly had a definite conclusion too, as did Yore. As for the older readers question, good writing, the artwork? Re: This weeks Dandy
I think older readers would probably prefer strips with lots of good visual gags, with Calamity James in the Beano being one of the best examples, or stories with random, wacky humour like Jamie Smart's Desperate Dan. They're more likely to enjoy funny, detailed artwork, and are less likely to enjoy strips which rely mainly on puns or slapstick.

Look, I don't want to argue with you. You're allowed your own opinion - just as I'm allowedmine. And thank you for reading the Wizzo. Very nice of you to do so. Any favourites/least favouritesDont be mean at me, Wizzkid, considering i've just been half-an hour looking up your own comic strips for Wizzo!

Re: This weeks Dandy
My concern about Phil's Korky is that he has some very good ideas, but he often lacks the killer instinct for a good punchline. I think some of his strips just fall flat on their face, but they had unrealised potential.
Next week's is bizarre, for reasons that will become clear to those of you who don't have a subscription, but its punchline works.

Re: This weeks Dandy
Funnily enough, i dont mind Korky, but i think it is an average strip.
Re: This weeks Dandy
Uhuh, the review for this week. Ha, desperate dan on the cover! First one since i started getting it again. Harry Hill average. Alan, Son of Han was hilarious in George vs Dragon! Dont mention Rocky's 'orror show. What happened to Bananaman? It looked like it was the strip that shrunk in the wash! Huh, i noticed Clive said "so 2004" in this week's My Own Genie. Could have changed it to "so 2010". Korky LOL. Postman Prat the best in this week. So better than last week! Desperate Dan inside very funny.
Re: This weeks Dandy
Not changing the 2004 reference wasn't the only mistake in this My Own Genie reprint from 2005. They should also have had Jamie redraw the title panel, so it looks like a kid's drawing of the current one instead of the 2004 era design.
Next week's the one year anniversary of the revamp, and I see Harry Hill's last panel implied his disappearance (but of course, it's most likely just a joke): "Phone the Dandy editor, Knitted Character! Tell him I won't be in next week..." I won't spoil the actual punchline.

REVIEW: THE DANDY, ISSUE 3555
A good issue overall, this week's had some highs, George VS Dragon, My Own Genie, Postman Prat, The Bogies and Rocky's Horror Show. As well as some VERY lows, DIY JLS, Madvertisement and Knock, Knock!.
The front cover was brilliant this week not only being a Desperate Dan cover by the amazingly talented Jamie Smart but also a brilliant one panel joke (Much better than the jokes used in things like Knock, Knock! and Are you Ready for the Question, Noel?). Two things I felt a bit annoyed about this week's front cover was the strangely coloured Dandy logo and the character list at the bottom had disappeared, instead replaced by Harry Hill (once again hanging around the bottom of the front cover.)
However it may please Nigel to hear I found this week's Harry Hill quite funny! While I think the strip really didn't need the first page, I still found the story enjoyable to read and liked the artwork. (I didn't get some of the jokes though)
Elsewhere Bananaman had an all-too-short adventure only lasting a page, but a funny story nonetheless. Mr Meecher had me chortling to myself after reading the 'Housepoint to Jack for answering the register "Yo, blud.", genius comedy by Will Dawbarn there! George VS Dragon had another funny story as expected, Pre-Skool Prime Minister and My Own Genie also being fantastic (despite reading the My Own Genie story before).
Nuke Noodle and Postman Prat were fantastic, and Dave the Squirrel, Igg and Ook, Jibber & Steve and Ray Fears all being brilliant mini strips! But the best of all had to be the brilliance of the Bogies, 17 panels of pure entertainment at its fullest. Nigel Auchterlounie, if you're reading this, you sir, are a genius.
Overall a fantastic issue as usual most definitely worth £1.50!
