A single Ghouldilocks strip appeared as a filler in Cheeky Weekly. This link http://britishcomics.wikia.com/wiki/Ghouldilocks suggests the feature originally appeared in Shiver and Shake, yet on this page http://comicsuk.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.p ... cks#p14366, Kashgar says a strip with the same name appeared in Jag from 1968 to 1969. Was the Shiver and Shake Ghouldilocks actually a reprint from Jag? Who was the artist on the Cheeky Weekly reprint (below)? I'll credit on the Cheeky blog anyone who can supply the info. Ta!

I remember reading somewhere that Graham Allen was the artist of Ghouldilocks. I will look through my collection of Jag and Shiver & Shake tomorrow (or the day after) to check if appearacnes in the latter were reprints from Jag. This is one of the questions I was going to look into at some point, so your post, Niblet, is a good reason to do it without further delay

Without a shadow of a doubt the art on Ghouldilocks is by Stan McMurtry. For some reason collectors and historians alike tend to confuse Stan's work with that of Graham Allen, despite both artists having distinctive and different styles.

Thanks for the artists name Lew - he was one of my favourite UK kids artists - Was Stan McMurtry also the artist on Percys Pets (in Smash) and a strip in Buster called the Twitopians? loved those stips - (err excuse the ignorance but is this Stan McMurtry MAC the Daily Mail cartoonist?

Yes that's him on all counts, although Gordon Hogg drew some of The Twitopians strips as well.

Graham Allen you'd probably know from drawing The Nervs in Smash! (before Ken Reid took over), 'Kicks' in Pow! and Fiends and Neighbours in... some IPC comic (Cor?) amongst many other strips.

And Graham still draws a weekly cartoon in Friday's Daily Express on the sports pages - usually a superb caricature of a big name. I have hundreds that I have collected over the years. Some are in full colour.

Lew, thanks for confirming the artist‘s name!
I looked through my collection and notes and this is what I can say regarding Ghouldilocks: there were two series, both drawn by the same artist. The first series had a short run in Jag and lasted only 18 weeks from October 19th, 1968 until the last tabloid-sized Jag dated Feb. 15th, 1969. The second series in Shiver and Shake began in issue No. 22 (August 4th, 1973) and enjoyed a considerably longer run of 44 episodes, ending in issue 67 (June 15th, 1974) (there was no Ghouldilocks in Shiver and Shake issue 54 dated March 16th, 1974). I was surprised to discover that only 5 of the original Jag episodes were reprinted in the second series.
Niblet, the episode that you have shown is a reprint from Jag dated 23rd November, 1968, and it wasn‘t one of the reprints that appeared in Shiver & Shake.

Not quite - this episode was drawn by a different artist, so it must be new material.

That two pager is the work of Barrie Appleby. Yes, brand new with the looks of it.

Niblet, I have a new piece of info to add with regard to the Ghouldilocks episode reprinted Cheeky. Accidentally I discovered that I wasn't completely right that it wasn't reprinted in Shiver and Shake. Indeed, it didin't appear in the weekly comic proper, but in 1973 IPC companion comics Whizzer and Chips, Knockout and Cor!! all had a feature called Star Guest where strips from one comic made guest appearances in the other papers. The episode that you showed was reprinted in Cor!! dated 1st December, 1973 and Ghouldilocks was introduced as a Shiver and Shake favourite.
