Tom Lavery drew the Broons and Oor Wullie in the 70s - I liked his work. He also drew Fred The Flop in...? (Buzz I think then Topper and Buzz).

I have hundreds of them but they are buried in the depths of my comic cupboard and its too damn hot to go rooting around in there. I think the fun section included reprinted Desperate Dan strips by Watkins back then.

And they're not really annuals, but as they have comic strips in them (well, the Dan one has full strips, the Dennis only has individual panels) they might be of interest. At 128 pages each, that should be over 60 strips.

Dennis the Menace Lenticular Notebook with Comic Strip Cells
If you are a Dennis the Menace fan and love the spiky-haired tearaway and his faithful hound Gnasher, this is the perfect notebook for you. Dennis the Menace made his first appearance in 'The Beano' on 17 March 1951. Readers continue to love his disgracefully naughty behaviour and his downright cheekiness, and some of these moments are captured in the notebook. The cover image of Denis's lenticular is made from three images of Dennis that tell a short story: Dennis smiles innocently, then puts a tomato in his catapult and snaps the catapult to splat the tomato, with a huge grin on his face! Inside the notebook, the left-hand pages of the smooth creamy paper are printed with a grid of blue checks, and each right-hand page shows an amusing scene and caption from a typical day's menacing in the life of Dennis and Gnasher. ideal for notes and School, in the office or at home, and guaranteed to make you laugh throughout the day, the is a notebook for Dennis the Menace fans of every age.

Desperate Dan Lenticular Notebook
If you are a Desperate Dan fan, or know one, this is the perfect notebook for you to enjoy or give as a gift. Desperate Dan, the roughest, toughest cowboy in the West and so strong he is almost a force of nature, made his first appearance in the number one issue of 'The Dandy' comic on 4 December 1937. He has been in every issue since then - an amazing record. Yet it is not his strength alone that makes Dan so endearing and enduring a character - there is also a heart of gold beating in his great barrel chest. The cover image of Desperate Dan's lenticular consists of three images of Dan that tell a short story: Korky the Cat gives Dan a gift-wrapped present containing a box that he opens to find a boxing glove that shoots out and punches him in the jaw! Inside the notebook, the left-hand pages of the smooth creamy paper are printed with a grid of blue checks, and each right-hand page has a Desperate Dan comic strip from start to finish. The Comic strips featured show Dan's home town of Cactusville. Ideal for notes at school, in the office or at home, and guaranteed to make you laugh throughout the day, this is a notebook for Dan fans of every age.

I'm not completely sure what you are asking for, Peter, but here are some scans, three from what appears to be the 1976 Oor Wullie annual with this post, and three from what appears to be the 1977 Broons annual in the next.

I think you were asking for an example of Tom Lavery's Broons?Oor Wullie and I don't think those scans are. My 70s Fun Sections are at the back of the cupboard and hard to get out without loads of effort.

I'm not at all qualified to comment on the artists, Peter, but it might be worth pointing out that both the Oor Wullie annual and The Broons annual that I scanned state on their respective front covers, Selected from the Sunday Post and earlier Oor Wullie/Broons books, so it doesn't necessarily follow that Watkins didn't draw all the pages. Equally, he might only have drawn a handful. Presumably, it will depend very much on when the individual strips first saw the light of day.
