Tom Lavery drew the Broons and Oor Wullie in the 70s - I liked his work. He also drew Fred The Flop in...? (Buzz I think then Topper and Buzz).

I have hundreds of them but they are buried in the depths of my comic cupboard and its too damn hot to go rooting around in there. I think the fun section included reprinted Desperate Dan strips by Watkins back then.

And they're not really annuals, but as they have comic strips in them (well, the Dan one has full strips, the Dennis only has individual panels) they might be of interest. At 128 pages each, that should be over 60 strips.

I'm not completely sure what you are asking for, Peter, but here are some scans, three from what appears to be the 1976 Oor Wullie annual with this post, and three from what appears to be the 1977 Broons annual in the next.

I think you were asking for an example of Tom Lavery's Broons?Oor Wullie and I don't think those scans are. My 70s Fun Sections are at the back of the cupboard and hard to get out without loads of effort.

I'm not at all qualified to comment on the artists, Peter, but it might be worth pointing out that both the Oor Wullie annual and The Broons annual that I scanned state on their respective front covers, Selected from the Sunday Post and earlier Oor Wullie/Broons books, so it doesn't necessarily follow that Watkins didn't draw all the pages. Equally, he might only have drawn a handful. Presumably, it will depend very much on when the individual strips first saw the light of day.
