I'd like to see (obviously not as reprints) some Beezer and Topper characters in this new comic/magazine, such as Ginger, Mickey the Monkey, Scaredy Cat etc. etc. Can't wait for it to come out!
That Mr Bean's a reprint...
It's taken from pictures off the TV, put in to the Mr Bean Magazine, and then BeanoMAX but the speech bubbles are left the same font as usual though!
Actually that's not a Calamity James strip you see, it's Jack Flash. Alan Digby spoke to me and said they were thinking of reviving it (old strip from the 40s that also ran in Nutty in the 80s) and would I have a go at a script.
So I wrote a 16 page action adventure, in the style of the Billy The Cat I'd just done. Then thru the post I get a copy of the Tam Paterson version which is a totally different genre.
So I fear my action version might not see the light of day. And so far I've only seen Tam's version without dialogue so I've no idea if it's any good. (I'm sure it is).
What's surprised me is how low-key the ad for BeanoMax was in this weeks Beano. Years ago any new DCT comic would be heralded by an extra four-page pull out in Dandy and Beano. Now we get a half page ad for the first new Thomson's comic in years. Quite bizarre.
Rich Johnston's Lying in the Gutters column today has a sneak peek at two panels from BeanoMAX No.1. By David Sutherland and Steve Bright if I'm not mistaken:
I liked the comic part.good to see its more comic than magazine..
Jack Flash was great....are we going to have this character every month or a new updated character every month..e.g G. Jumbo..Billy the cat..iron fish..etc..
Who was the guest with Billy Whizz?.........
David, Steve, Nigel all did great caricatures..
The Bash Street kids with Jamie Oliver and the darlek was very good..
Low distribution of DC Thomson titles being sadly the norm around here I managed to buy the one copy my local newsagents had.
Seems to be very much in the new Dandy style with its format of comics & articles - but almost twice the price! Wise to do this as a separate title than to change the weekly though.
