Good! That should've been mentioned in the first place!

Re: This week's issue Take 2
It's been a few months since I bought the Beano, and am equally flummoxed as to why there's no issue number... This is number 3649, I think? Dated 18th August, just making an educated guess.
Regardless, I enjoyed a lot more of this Beano than I did the last Beano I bought. Not liking the "new" Roger, still not liking the "new" Dennis and still HATING the "new" Ball Boy, but there's a lot I like here - Billy Whizz, Minnie The Minx, Bash Street Kids, Fred's Bed, Bananaman, Weebo & Zuky, all good! Not too impressed with the "new" Numskulls, mind.
Anyone won anything on this Golden Ticket thing? Haven't tried my one yet.

It's Meebo, not Weebo.
New Numskulls? But they've hardly changed since 1993.

And "new" Dennis is gone, dead and buried.

The Numskulls' art style has slightly changed recently. It's by the same artist still but the way it's coloured has changed slightly.
On the subject of changing Roger and Dennis' parents. I think it is a good idea as it takes away some of the anachronisms (Parents with moustaches) in the Beano which put off new readers. Im suprised they dont do the same with Teacher but then his appearance is more iconic then that of Dennis and Roger's parents.

I can't see the BSK getting an update anyway as long as Dave Sutherland is still drawing it (it's not just Teacher who needs updating, shorts with long sleeved tops is also an anachronism, as are Fatty and Erbert's entire outfits, and Toots' bow in her hair).

For a long while it was Mr. Paterson doing those Numskulls - now it's Barry Glennard, and it just doesn't seem right. Bit of a shame really, I liked Barry's stuff when he did the Beano Birds and Gnasher & Gnipper.Digifiend wrote:It's Meebo, not Weebo.

Glennard took over the Numskulls years ago. It's still heavily influenced by Tom's style - you'll even often find Tom's trademark smelly sock.
Re: This week's issue Take 2
Since the Numskulls moved to the Beano, only a handful have been by Tom. It's certainly true that in the last ten years, of the nearly twenty he has been drawing them for (possibly back into Beezer & Topper days) Barry has been cloning less and going more his own way.

New information to me, good stuff then! I just remember from when they joined the Beano in 1993 up to when I stopped getting it weekly around the year 2000, it seemed like every one of them was by Paterson. On the sporadic occassions I've bought it over the last twelve years (maybe 40-50 issues?), they've either been reprints or by Barry. Good on him for developing his own style, though - except I'll always think of him as the "Beano Birds Man".

Whereas to me, Dave Sutherland is the Beano Birds (specifically, the Bash Street Birds!) man, and Barry Glennard drew Nosey Parker in Whizzer and Chips (or was it Buster?)
Re: This week's issue Take 2
Good. I was pretty sure, but the doubt crossed my mind as I was about to hit submit.
Re: This week's issue Take 2
I notice nobody on here has mentioned the Fred's Bed revamp yet. That strip has had quite a lot of revamps in the 5 years it's been in The Beano.
Also Billy Whizz is absent this week.

I almost mentioned it when I received my sub copy, but I guess it's only polite to give the new look time to settle in...Gilly wrote:I notice nobody on here has mentioned the Fred's Bed revamp yet. That strip has had quite a lot of revamps in the 5 years it's been in The Beano.
