Re: Tupper Returns
There's a collected book out closer to Christmas too, I recommended it to a runner at work!
Re: Tupper Returns
I bet that's the reason for the revival then. DCT will have paid the Mirror to promote the book by printing a new strip. Barrie Mitchell was a good choice of artist, as he's a sports story veteran having previously done Roy of the Rovers, as well as the Mirror's Scorer.

Re: Tupper Returns
The strip has been requested by Brendan Foster to promote the Great North Run.
Typical Alf storyline though.

Re: Tupper Returns
cracking pun of a title for this thread, Bob----much appreciated!
Re: Tupper Returns
There's still time to pick up today's Daily Mirror for this excellent 3-page strip. It's great stuff with over 20 panels on each page; I haven't seen such tightly packed artwork since the heyday of Jonah!

Re: Tupper Returns
I find Kermode and Mayo immensely irritating. But I detest Richard Bacon after reading an interview he did recently.
Re: Tupper Returns
Kermode and Mayo's Film programme (or the podcast) is essential listening for me every week...incidentally, today's broadcast is probably still available on TV via the red button if anyone wants to see what we're talking about. On the other hand I tend to agree about Bacon, who just seems to be smug, shallow and self-important.
Of course, Peter Allen wipes the floor with all of them!

Re: Tupper Returns
It's interesting to see that they used the art from the Red Dagger cover on the first page of it.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

Re: Tupper Returns
Strangely no illustrator credit for Barrie Mitchell.
The reason for the 'tightly packing' was basically the strip was suppose to appear over 3 or 4 days. The cover was an after thought.

Four days, I'd say, if Lew's observations about panel resizing are correct.

Re: Tupper Returns
Aha! I wondered why the pages were split down the middle so unnaturally!

Re: Tupper Returns
This was in today's Sunday Post. Anyone know how to get their hands on this comic or have DC Thomson got their wires crossed?

Re: Tupper Returns
The 10 pages were due to be released over a number of days.
This schedule was amended due to injury to Halle Salaisse who was meant to appear in the race. The last two pages were redrawn to 're-tell' the story.
Barrie Mitchell produced a total of 12 pages including re-draws.
Apparently the strip also appears on the Great North Run website.
