I buy several newspapers each day and every so often something appears that may be of interest to forum members. Up till now I have given each item its own topic so I thought it would be a better idea to have one topic for anything I find in the papers (unless it fits in with a current topic like the Bash Street one). This was in today's Daily Mail. The bit that interested me was where it says scenarios will be updated to appeal to a modern audience - I hope that doesn't mean 26 episodes of kids staring at their i-phones.



I've never heard of Topsy and Tim, sounds a bit middle class.

I remember Topsey and Tim with Tim doing a painting which got blown out of the school building...the drama has stayed in my mind all these years...
love to see an old book with the original drawings..and not the new ones..

I wished for a Famous Five TV show when I was a kid! There was one in the 70's or early 80's I think.
I just hope it's not all Sarah Jane Adventures and buried under cheap, obvious CGI.

Why would Famous Five need that amount of CGI, it's a lot more grounded in reality than SJA.

There was indeed a Famous Five tv show, in the '70's and '90's but there were also 2 Children's Film Foundation serials done in the late '50's and early 60's?. These are currently available on dvd and I thoroughly enjoyed them. I saw the first one at The Odeon Club in Airdrie.

For those with Sky TV, there's a Famous Five series being shown on the Al Jazeera Children channel, which you can find in the International section.

It's dubbed into some language I don't understand, but it is there for anyone who wants to see it

I know there was a Famous Five animated TV show on Disney Channel. I wouldn't recommend it though as the only character the same was Timmy the Dog. Speaking of those old Famous Five series in the 70s I have some annuals I had given to me of them.

Just remembered there was a comic strip of "The Famous Five" in "LooK-In" in the late 70s, based on the Southern TV series of the same time (which is now available on DVD).

Five were modernised using the latest gadgets in the "Famous Five:On The Case" books, featuring the offspring of the original members (and they didided opinion a bit). Wonder if elements of these books will influence the new version.
