Re: Lew's blog has ended!!
Trouble is, as Lew said in that blog post, there just isn't as many outlets for the artists these days. There's a few other artists I'd like to see more of too. He also mentioned that, as has been discussed before, the retailers are less than helpful. They aren't supporting proper comics (Phoenix deserves to be in more than just Waitrose and the specialists!), favouring the activity mags with cheap tat gifts attached. I've said it before and I'll say it again, no comic strips = not a comic. And that applies to too many titles. Lew knows he'll have a lot of competition to find work, and not that many places to send material to. He's been selling a fair amount of original artwork lately. You can guess why.

Re: Lew's blog has ended!!
Best wishes to Lew and to his mother, who he is looking after.
Myself and Lew never always agreed on everything, but there's no denying his passion and enthusiasm for the comics medium he has done so much to promote.
I started a blog myself but discovered [after picking up sporadic cartoon work] that I can't really show the stuff on the blog as I've handed over the copyright and it's no longer 'mine' to show.

Re: Lew's blog has ended!!
I find this very sad and as with ISPYSHHHGUY, I didn't see eye to eye with Lew on some occasions. And although our opinions crossed only now and then, his blog was always interesting, informative and entertaining. Lew, I wish you all the best and hope things turn round for you in this new year.

The blog post has 48 replies now. Shows how much we'll all miss it, doesn't it?
Re: Lew's blog has ended!!
I'm very sad about it too, and must get round to commenting. Lew's knowledge is massive.

Not posted on this site for about 3 years. Worth "returning" to voice this.
Such terrible news for Lew and such a terrible situation he paints on his blog, all the best for the future to Mr Stringer. If he cannot find an outlet for his artistic skills then I would recommend he writes a book I can think of a website full of people who would buy it.

...And if he doesn't want to write a Terry Bave-style 'My Life in Comics' autobiography I'd love to see a whole book along the lines of the 'Specky Hector's History of Comics!' strip he produced for Buster. (Not sure there'd be all that much money to be made but I'm sure schools and libraries would love it!)

Re: Lew's blog has ended!!
Just noticed this. Thanks everyone. Work has picked up a little recently. Very busy over the next few weeks anyway. Possibility of more after that, but I can't say what just yet.
As for an autobiography, I think it might be quite tedious for most people to read. Thirty years of "Get up, write, draw, post/email pages, worry about future, work into the night, go to bed, repeat.".
Leo Baxendale managed a very entertaining autobiography as he was such an important figure in comics, but most of us wouldn't be anywhere near as interesting.
If a comic artist's life was like it was portrayed in the movie How To Murder Your Wife it might be more suited to an autobiography. Er, without the murder of course!

Re: Lew's blog has ended!!
Although Toth produced some promotional work that appeared in magazines and newspapers, the strips seen in the film were by Mel Keefer.

Re: Lew's blog has ended!!
By thunder you're correct. It probably has his credit on the film as well, but I keep missing it - Will have to go and have a watch. Lord knows why I keep thinking it was his art in the actual film, but either way his work's still fab. Will manage to pick up his Toth (expensive) By Design one day on eBay - hopefully!
Cheers.

Re. Alex Toth, and I realise this is off-topic and I'll post this on World comics also, those who might have only seen the master's work on Zorro, or haven't seen it period might want a look at this, Bravo for Adventure, which is about as good as it gets in comics, imo. Quite, quite wonderful:-
