What comics did you buy today?
Re: What comics did you buy today?
Beano Summer Specials 1983, 85 and 86, Dandy Summer Specials 1985 and 1986, £2 each.
Re: What comics did you buy today?
The Beano, as usual, with the 1981 Summer Special reprinted inside. And all for the usual £2! Great value for money!
Re: What comics did you buy today?
I can only assume that DCT marketing has been persuaded to give the Beano a chance to be the same price every week and stop adding cover mounts and see what happens!
Re: What comics did you buy today?
Yeah, I was expecting a price bump, considering the page count was almost doubled, pleased to see it didn't happen.
Re: What comics did you buy today?
Thirteen copies of Whizzer and Chips from 1986-7 for a total of £1.30! A bargain for fifteen-odd pages of Sweeny Toddler by Tom Paterson - I wish there was a reprint of the 'complete Sweeny Toddler'.
Re: What comics did you buy today?
Today, I bought a 1946 era issue of the Beano (No. 281, issue dated 6/4/46)
Re: What comics did you buy today?
Eight volumes of the rarely-seen Dixon Hawke's Case Book, one of which, No. 8 from 1942, I would generously class as in Good Condition, the others, issued between 1944 and 1948 according to Steve Holland's index, would be described by any dealer as Near Fine. Just nine more of the twenty to track down! Where's Dixon Hawke when you need him?

Where did you get those gems? ebay? Or is there some source of old comics in London I don't know about? Speaking of which has anybody been to the Grays Antiques rooms off Oxford Street? 200 dealers over two floors. I've looked at the website and there are a few book/ephemera dealers so I might pay a visit.

I'll have to give that a go. Going to be in London all next weekend for the MCM, but anime and cosplay can only be tolerated for too long before they get boring, so I'll be off into town for British comics!
Anyway, Yesterday I got
The Beano (couldn't pass up that reprint!)
The Phoenix
and The Brave Book for Boys, from 1941 (would have been a 1942-dated annual). Despite paper rationing, this is of pre-war size and quality! It was printed in Oxford, perhaps there was more paper 'floating around' in that city? The first story is about a Chinese boy helping to resist the Japanese occupation, but the rest of the stories are Jungle / Canadian / School adventures with no mention of the war.

Twelve copies of the Beano and the Dandy from 1957-61, bought in Echuca of all places. I've not seen 60s Beanos for sale in Australia for twenty years!

This morning, I went to a second hand bookshop in Nambour (a 50 kilometre trip from where I live), and picked up the Monster Fun Annual, 1982

My answer is in the serious collection for sale thread. I have added a link now I have put up my answer. But when you can buy your own height in comics, it can be classed as a good thing!
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!
