I can't believe its been five years since the post above but this was in the latest Weekly News. I don't look at the DC Thomson website so maybe some of you are already aware of this book if its been mentioned thereon. I can just about read the small print and it looks like there are newly written articles about the magazine rather than it being just pages of reprints. The price would suggest that, though.



A google search of "50 years of Jackie" brings up this item on Amazon but after that its all Jackie Kennedy and what happened in November 1963.

I've had a look through the contents of the 2013 book, and it's a worthy item for anyone who read this magazine regularly first time around---I certainly did, after my [female] cousin finished reading it!

Amongst the more dubious delights is a reprinted poster of all members of retro-50s revivalists Showaddywaddy stripped to the waist-------[!]

On a related note, I was also quite surprized to learn that JUDGE DREDD visual conceptualist Carlos Ezquerra done lovey-dovey teen strips for the UK market early in his career----and very good at it he was too!

Yes that's where I saw it, too---it was avalable 'two-books-for-20-quid' when I looked through it.

It's large format ---there's loads in it.

Are WH Smith's customers restricted to buying The Best Of Boyfriend with The Biggest Jackie Annual Ever, Rab, or do they have a much wider range of options where the 2 for £20 offer is concerned?

It seemed to be a range of similar items, Phoenix, of larger-format books/annuals. Although I think I saw seperately-themed books of similar size included in the deal.

They were more lavish and substantial than the usual annuals, and well worth a tenner each.

Sorry I can't remember exact titles for you.

My Tesco has a Famous Five annual with a nice painted cover. Anyone else noticed it?

I'm hearing whispers emerging from Putney that the Jackie annual might just be in my Christmas stocking. I'll have to go into Liverpool's WH Smiths in a day or so to choose some other book title to recommend to the whisperer so they can take advantage of the two for £20 offer.

If you get it you won't be disappointed, Phoenix; this mag shifted an impressive one million copies a week at it's peak!

Naturally, I will not look a gift horse in the mouth, Rab, and if I do get it, I will certainly read it. However, I suspect that Andrew's reasoning is a bit like this, My dad likes reading DC Thomsons' story papers for (boys and) girls, Jackie is or was a DCT story paper for girls, therefore this annual will make a great Christmas present for him. The fact that there is a significant difference between the ones I do read regularly, and which are full of a range of serials, (Mandy, Judy, Bunty, Spellbound, Debbie, Nikki etcetera) and those that were essentially magazines for the older teenage girl (Jackie, Blue Jeans, Patches, Cherie etcetera, and even Suzy), which I don't read, although I do have a small collection of all those titles as examples, will certainly not have occurred to him.

There was a documentary on Radio 4 recently about Jackie, which included interviews with a lot of people who worked on it. I guess it was supposed to tie in with this, though the new book was never mentioned in it.
