Numbering guides - Whoopee and Whizzer and Chips

Post by Digifiend »

The guys at the Beano Project have been uploading something other than comic scans. And I think you'll like it. Slinky has made numbering guides for Whoopee! and for Whizzer and Chips.

These are great! Does anyone know when "The Best of Whizzer and Chips" started? And how long many issues were produced?

I've encountered a problem with these. At issue 548 it says 1980-06-21+28 - does this mean that there was one issue on sale for two weeks? Can anybody help with this?

Also they've made a few mistakes throughout it. The Knockout merger should be at issue #194 not #193, the Krazy merger is #442 not #441 and the Scouse Mouse merger is issue #1007 not #1010. Whoopee merger is correct though.

Yes, I've made my own spreadsheets for the Whizzer and Chips Monthly's, Comic Libraries and Annuals to help me keep track. The Best Of Monthly started in November 1984 and ended in January 1995 - that's 123 issues.

I have the Whizzer and Chips one downloaded which I can try and upload, but sadly not the Whoopee one. Does anybody have that they could upload onto Mediafire (the website the previous ones were uploaded to)?

I could upload my copy on to my archive website.

As I have returned from my holidays, I'll upload the excel file to my site tomorrow, and I'll have the link here.

I'm always interested in clarifying issue numbers and dates. Here's my own lists of the 3 titles mentioned (Whoopee!, Whizzer and Chips and Whizzer and Chips Monthly).

I did originally have the final issue of Whizzer and Chips Monthly as Feb-95 (#124) based on a rough estimate, so it's nice to clarify that date a bit better with George Shiers details here.

As always, my lists are open to amendments.

I've let Slinky know about the downed links and the corrections posted here, although I'm not sure he'll see the message as he's not been active since May 2012.

Al's link here does render the old ones obsolete anyway.

Here you are (although these have been reformatted to Excel 2007 format)

Whizzer and Chips
Whoopee!

If you want these reformatted to the earlier Excel format, then please let me know.

I have just downloaded this file again, so it is definitely not corrupted.

Bruce has uploaded them with the Excel 2007 format (as I was writing this post :) ) and I have re-uploaded them with the olde Excel 1997-2003 format: http://www.mediafire.com/view/ekp9622xe ... CM_WP).xls

I have also reloaded the 3 spreadsheets that are contained within the original document as 3 separate .txt files:

Whizzer and Chips: http://www.mediafire.com/view/q678eqc1d ... _Chips.txt

Whizzer and Chips Monthly: http://www.mediafire.com/view/n12c62i24 ... onthly.txt

Whoopee!: http://www.mediafire.com/view/9efju5etc ... hoopee.txt

Thanks for uploading these! :D

Al's spreadsheets all look correct but Bruce's have the same mistakes I mentioned above regarding mergers. The Knockout merger should be #194 not #193, the Krazy merger should be #442 not #441 and the Scouse Mouse merger should be #1007 not #1010 (again, Whoopee merger is correct).

Oops I've just realised I got confused when reading the cover of the last Whizzer and Chips monthly. It says 01/95 which I'd assumed meant January but that was followed by the word February. You can see the cover on my post here:

http://whizzerandchipscomic.blogspot.co ... hly_5.html

Anyway, that does mean that the 'Best Of Monthly' actually ended in February 1995 as Al had thought (and also myself, until I misread it recently). I've made a spreadsheet for all 124 issues, which can be downloaded from here:

http://www.4shared.com/file/p1midV6Sce/ ... reads.html?

I'm confused as to why they would put 01/95 on the covr for the February issue. Did it go bi-monthly or something, because you may notice that the cover doesn't actually say monthly on it?
