Randi v Jimmy Watson...
Okay, here?s a bit of fun. Let?s see how imaginative you lot can be. Remember ?Jimmy and his Magic Patch?? Correct me if I?m wrong, but I think it was drawn by the great Dudley Watkins. Anyway, imagine you?re a scientist and you?ve been hired by that great sceptic, James Randi, to prove it?s a fraud. That poor Jimmy Watson is suffering from a severe delusional state. Or, to use the medical term, he?s as ?Nutty as a Fruitcake.? To your amazement you discover that the patch really works! Jimmy can actually travel through time. He does this by grabbing your hand and transporting you to, say, the Battle of Waterloo. You escape by the skin of your teeth and discover a rational, (or as rational as you can make it), scientific explanation for this phenomena. What would you put in your report to Randi?

In the style of an adventure comic!Corporal Clott wrote:Okay, here?s a bit of fun. Let?s see how imaginative you lot can be. Remember ?Jimmy and his Magic Patch?? It was a dark and stormy night (with apologies to Peanuts!) when I first approached Mr J (name with-held to ensure objectivity). On the initial information received, we expected this youth to be severly delusional and to be undergoing several forms of pyschoanalysis. On my first approach, Mr J was open and clearly suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder to maintain this fiction as part of his daily life routine.
When the subject of the 'patch' was broached, he was effusive and made claims to visiting many historical events that clearly showed that he had suffered from the strength of his intellect overcoming his anchor to reality. While I refused his first approaches to demonstrate his claims, I felt that I had to refuse as third person evidence that failed to corroborate his delusions would result in a full-blown pyschosis from which we might never be able to aid him to recover from.
As Mr J became more and more forceful in his desire to 'show' me how this 'patch' worked, I felt constrained that I had to attempt to experience the translocation or it would be impossible to disprove his claims. He asked when I would like to visit? I said flippantly, the Norman Invasion of Saxon England as I was sure that this was outside the remit of his experiences and his knowledge.
With a grin, Mr J said that that would be a fine time to visit and suddenly I felt strangely nauseous. When the feeling had passed, Mr J said that it was only due to it being my first time and that I would get used to it as I used the patch more and more.
I can confirm that we had moved from the initial location where I had met Mr J and that we were now in a wooded area. From this wooded area, we could see what appeared to be a large number of Medieval re-enactors apparently re-enacting some battle or other. While I could applaud the enthusiasm that seemed to inspire the re-enactors, I began to wonder if they weren't taking things a bit too far.
On closer examination, after an hour or so, it appeared that these re-enactors chose to bring their attempts to reality to a whole new dimension. Each of the casualties were either seriously wounded or DEAD! This now began to make me consider Mr J's claims in a serious light.
....to be continued... (if anyone wants me to)
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!
