I put the idea of a Compendium of Football Comic Stories together to DC Thompson, the same as they've done for Commando, but they mailed me back saying that they have considered it in the past but they arent going to do it. Their reasoning being that War stories dont date. This seems strange to me, Football is the most popular of UK pastimes right now with the build up of the world cup and it would be a great if the old stories could re-surface.
One thing DC Thompson did say on their mail back to me was:
"Albums have been published under licence in Norway and it may be in
the future we will do the same here."
Anyone know what this means? Have they done what i suggested, but in Norway?

A lot of DCT titles are reprinted in countries like Norway and Finland sometimes , I imagine , in different formats.
I remember being told that Star Romance, pocket books were cancelled, because Norway had stopped buying them.
I also remember reading on a Commando website about how popular Commando is in Finland.

Just reading through the United story line from the FIRST issue of Champ! What a great story eh?
I've managed to collect about 70 issues of champ from ebay etc and im reading through them now - jeez, comics where proper back in the day werent they?
Does anyone know whether this is the BONE-FIDE start of the "United" stories though, as there is an awful lot of background characters and stories refered to though throughout the story - they didnt appear in another comic surely?

Although at the time many older readers thought comics of that period were not "proper comics".

Hi,
Just looking through the book 'The Golden Years of Adventure Stories' and noticed a two page United feature:

If you read The Observer on a Sunday, then tomorrow's (June 4 2006) edition has a football illo by (me) in a 'comic-strip style' in their Observer Sport Monthly supplement.
Should be a bit of fun!

Hi,
I have searched all over the Net for potential comic dealers which deals with Football Picture Story Monthly.
I need 109 to complete my collection of 418.
I hope anyone who would recommend me some dealers to start off.
Thanks!

I think this was the full story of Cast Iron Bill.

Hi.
Going back a few posts to the scans by rod2402 from 'The Golden Years of Adventure Stories'. Can anyone identify the artist of the figure in the bottom left-hand corner of the first scan? He has a Union Jack on his top, with a black collar. I've seen the artists work in comics from the 60s (I think he did a run of one-page detective stories. The kind where the reader gets clues to solve the case. Would that be Valiant or Buster?). Also, I think he did a run of Kampfgruppe Falken and Union Jack Jackson in Warlord in the 70s.
Cheers!

The artist in question is Neville Wilson and the one-page detective strip series you are thinking of was 'Bruce Kent invites you to Spot the Clue' in Lion.crow wrote:Hi.
