Does anyone know about this character, or am I imagining him. He used to be in a comic and was a hero schoolboy who gave a sign like a W with his hands. i think it was spnsered by Walls Ice Cream. I have been trying to prove he existed to some of my mates for a year! Help ! Thanks a lot

Yup, he definitely existed ... I'm sure it was in the Eagle comic in the 1950s and was a back page strip definitely sponsored by Walls ice-cream. It wasn't an advert but an on-going strip with different stories every week. Regards Spence

I am by no means an expert, but according to The Man Who Drew Tomorrow by Alastair Crompton, Walls Ice-Cream wanted to sponsor a page in The Eagle as long as it was drawn by Frank Hampson ( they didn't actually know his name at this point ). It would seem therefore that Tommy Walls The Wonder Boy was originated by the man who created Dan Dare although successive artists took him on.

He did exist - there are some pictures in the Eagle history section of this site, and also an entry for him on my site in the UK section, at http://www.internationalhero.co.uk
