missed out on Crunch issues one and two with free gifts but, unexpectedly, won issue three with free gift. An extra two pound from rival bidder would have trumped me as I was unavailable to counter at the time. There you go... sometimes, that extra quid does the job :P

It's the first time in years I am not going to win anything. a bundle of Sparkys from 1966 (only thing is, I only want two issues from this bunch. Broke after the holidays, bills coming up and so on.)

Hopefully, it won't be long before I'll get those two issues.

Today the charity shop had a World distributors Tarzan and Valiant Annuals 1966 and 1967 at £1.49p each.Didn't buy any though. The Tarzan comic illustrations looked basic and I didn't have enough enthusiasm to buy the Valiant's.The charity shops have had very little other comics and annuals of late that relate to this forum.

With my interest in book illustration however I was pleased to buy DINOTOPIA Journey to Chandra by James Gurney from a charity shop a few weeks ago ,this being the third in the series and I already having the other two.Great artwork not so good writing.

Also from a charity shop in the past weeks bought two Asterix comics.Like TinTin these are solid selling comics but probably past the height of their popularity.

In the town there is an Antique/collectables shop with around about 8 Playbox and Rainbow comics from the 1950s priced £7 each.

Do I think this is a fair price? Yes
Would I like to own them? Yes
Can I afford them? Yes
Will I buy them? No

There is also a market stall that as comics and annuals at what I would call top end prices.

As I have mentioned before mine is a pocket money collection and I sometimes pass on comics and annuals I would like to own hoping(expecting) to find them another day at a price I prefer. Too many carboots I guess

No luck at carboot this morning.Someone had three Star Wars comics but wanted £3 each ,I call that Ebay prices not carboot prices. Then I came across a woman placing a pile of the newer Eagles and Roy of the Rovers comics on her table ,when I asked how much the comics were she said she didn't know and looked through the titles.I said if she didn't know I didn't know and walked on.I would only have been interested at a very low price anyway and wasn't too bothered.

Some early issues of Tina, which I would've bought if I hadn't spend so much on Ranger and Lion last week!

Stash of 1970s Beano, Bunty, Mandy comics from Stafford carboot. They were all over the place in dirty boxes. They would have cleaned up OK but seller insisting on £2 each! Seller said that's the "eBay price".

What he obviously couldn't comprehend is that some people tend to take a bit more care of their comics rather than just dumped in dirt and dust and the £2 prices on eBay are for nice clean condition ones!

I bought about 60 of the more interesting comics from the same dealer for just £10 last Sunday - presumably he must've looked them up on ebay since then. He also had some of the later Peter Pan records, including one Batman, but those he HAD checked on ebay and wanted £10 each for! Unfortunately I overslept this morning. :(

Ha ha! If only. Even I (as a non-beano fan) would have bought them if they were that age. Maybe next time.

If you are a non-Beano fan, Richard, why on earth are you spending good money on Beano annuals?
