I think the main benefit of the BEANO today, Geoff, is that the editor gives the freedom of modern artists to interpret the older characters using their own individual style: I agree the older strips were more accomplished in the main, but even great artists like Bob Nixon were forced into a creative straightjacket by having to draw early Roger the Dodger very much like the Reid template, a concoction that never really worked in the early strips.

Yes the comic is extremely different-looking now, with seemingly only Dave Sutherland the only real link with the past I can notice.

It's out four-weekly, not monthly. 13 issues a year. It's been four weeks since issue 4, so no, not early
Digifiend

Thanks for the info. You must have got it from somewhere else as the frequency isn't included in the indicia.

The 'next issue' ad in the previous issue gives the date of publication. I presume the current issue tells you when the next one will be out.

Yes it does, but no mention anywhere of frequency. I didn't want to make a big deal out of this, because it isn't. It was simply a comment. Actually, 13 a year gives me more reading and that's not a bad thing :D
I think we can now all consider me tellt!

I didn't think anyone was making a big deal of it. I was just trying to be helpful in regards to working out the frequency of the comic.

I didn't fancy subscribing, preferring to buy it from a shop, so I didn't go on line for it. But thank you anyway.
It's interesting, well to me at least, that while I and many others download old comics and buy digital American ones from the likes of Comixology, for this comic I much prefer to pitch up to WHS or wherever else has it and hand over cash for it. Probably because it's The Doctor, it's British and I am supporting a local shop - even if it is WHS. It's no problem for me as I live in a fair sized town with Edinburgh and Glasgow a half hour away by train.
A bit like in supermarkets, where I never use the self checkout and always use a manned one. Keeps people in work, imo.
It's seldom easy for non pros to get over attempted humour in writing only, so when I write, "I've been tellt", it's a feeble attempt at humour against myself. :)

Does asking Hunt Emerson for a copy of the complete Firkin count?
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

Is there a complete Firkin?? Thought I had it, then found an older book filled with Firkin strips that weren't in the original book I had... And since then I've got around six issues of the Firkin comic, and all of THOSE contain strips that aren't in either of the two books I have!

Just secured the last pre-ban copy of Action (the official one, not the unofficial "30 plus club" that never got released) for £7. Over a week ago this copy went for £57 from Phil's Auctions! I don't get it. From the scan, I have a pretty good copy. Does Phil's Auctions really inflate prices to such a degree? I still don't get it; a fifty pound difference here! What's going on? I placed a maximum bid of a tenner and went for a few pints, believing my bid would be easily eclipsed. I JUST DON'T GET IT!

For some reason Phil Shrimpton and Malcolm Phillips are attracting some well-heeled bidders to their auctions. I suspect that when these people find themselves being outbid their pride is dented so they whack a huge bid on hoping to do away with the opposition. The opponent then does likewise so the chase then becomes more important to them than the item being auctioned, or the money they are throwing at it, the value of which may well be very much less than the bids being exchanged. I do, of course, realise that technically an item being auctioned is worth what the winning bidder has committed himself/herself to pay, but as Geoff has found out, it is not the case when a few days after the said auction another of the items can become available at a much more reasonable price in a different auction when there are no well-heeled bidders waving their willies around.
