yes, the name Wicked Wanda in 'strip form' -----groan!] rings a bell: I will look it up, I am already pursuing Little Annie F, I recognized it as superior painting even back then.

Ron Embelton was a top-notch artist by any standards and I am sure it was a quality concern [artistically].
Sorry to be pedantic ISPYHHHGUY but the question was put by TWOHEADEDBOY not me.

After my post discovered that there was life out there in the comic universe I happily decided to go back to sleep. :D

Hi, Lew, nice sale for your Cheeky issue one with free gift. I have the same issue with free gift and will never sell. At what point on given issue do you think: I ain't selling this regardless of any money offered. To elaborate - when does your collection become a commodity? Do you have one? Personally, my collection will never be compromised by money. I have too much to be reconciled. I know you have some beautiful examples in your box. When do you think: have it for a price!

My box? Anyway, it simply comes down to either a) nostalgic sentimentality or b) favourite artists, or both. Comics that fit those categories are ones I'll always keep (TV21, Smash, Pow, Wham, etc). Of course the reality of life is we'll all probably have to let go of our collections one day, if we end up in nursing homes. Depressing I know, but you did ask.

In the case of Cheeky, I was 18 when No.1 was published so I have no childhood sentimentality over it, and only bought it because it was a first issue. I'd only read it once and it didn't hook me that much so when I was sorting out stuff I thought I'd sell it.

Talking of free gifts, the charity shop at the weekend had around 1/2 dozen Beano comics from 1997 containing free sweets for which they were asking £2.99p each.Due to the date they were of no interest to me but I was puzzled as to how they came to be in the charity shop,if they had been originally bought by children surely the sweets would have been eaten or why would a collector give them up after so short a time?

While in there saw a dinner plate I liked but it had too many chips on it ( that bit was a joke, sorry!)

I know what you mean about the POW comics as I have the set with all the gifts that took me ages to collect so won't be going anywhere until the nursing home says there's no room to keep it!

1, 2 and 3 of Surface Tension by Jay Gunn. Looks a great story and will hopefully keep me happy on the train to London tomorrow. I have no idea how long it has been since I bought a comic that has only just come out but I read a preview and had the 'urge'!

It's excellent. One of the best British comics around at the moment.

I couldn't wait and have just read the first one......brilliant! Really impressed with the storyline and the artwork. I'll be pre-ordering #4 and 5 ASAP. Lew, you say it's one of the best at the moment, any other recommendations as I'm surprised how much I enjoyed this one?

It depends on personal taste but I'd recommend all of the ones I plugged on my blog. All fairly recent UK comics and graphic novels:

Haven't read Man Who Laughs, or Motherless Oven yet but they have good reviews elsewhere.

Almost forgot to mention, I took a trip to Stockport's Book & Record Fair last Sunday; I bought from a stall run by one of the founders of Crikey! Magazine who left acrimoniously (sorry forgot his name already).

We had a good chat about the magazine and comics in general; could've talked all day.

Anyway I bought: Comics: a 1960 Princess and 1976 Spellbound.

Annuals: 1963 Beezer, 1977 June and 1979 Tammy.

I have received this e-mail from my mate Steve. He is wondering if his TV Comic is complete as the centre pages are in black and white rather than colour. But if there is a strip across the two centre pages surely there wouldn't be any other pages on top if it? Can anyone confirm TV Comic issue 1500 had only 16 pages.

Just won 3 issues of Film Fun with Terry-Thomas on the cover. I have few issues compared to the number of Radio Funs I have.

Postie Knox just delivered my TV Comic 1500 - had to fight the dog off as she is always trying to chew up things that come through the letterbox.

The comic seemed quite thin - only 16 pages, but I guess it downsized in later years. The Dukes of Hazzard are in the centre pages in b&w, and the pages are not numbered. If you have your copy to hand at home grateful if you could check your copy for the number of pages.

Picked up a graphic novel at a charity shop for a £1.At first I thought it was an ordinary paperback book that had about 300 pages but then discovered it was a comicbook. At first glance I wasn't too impressed ,a week or two earlier it had been on display in the shop window. When I paid for it the chap at the counter said he didn't know what it was about and I thought i'd probably think the same after reading it :) Surprisingly it was a good read and I got through it in a very short time and thought the simple artwork added to the dream quality.
I'm sure it's not to every ones taste but I enjoyed it and here are examples from it-- Image

Not so much comics but books on comics. I've just received Boys will be Boys by ES Turner and The War Libraries by Steve Holland and David Roach. Both look very interesting and hopefully a good source for reference.

At some point during the production of American comics someone decided that instead of having one super hero why not have two super heroes working together, then someone else thought we can have three or four super heroes together and so on.
The Uk could team up dennis the menace with desperate dan :)
Today at the charity shop bought ---

DC SCOOBY DOO! Team -up volume 1 for £1.50p this has Scooby and Batman and Robin on the cover.

At the same charity shop in the 50p section they had 5 manga magazines these were similar in size to Argos extra catalogues. These were also on offer at 3 for a pound. I bought just the one because I wasn't sure whether the stories were serialised. They looked more of a girlie magazine ,could be wrong.

SHOJO BEAT 217 pages of japanese comics 50p

Ok then, start reading from the back page through to the front page, got it !
