New Johnny Red comic launches in November

Post by Lew Stringer »

This is interesting. Titan Comics are publishing a brand new Johnny Red mini series, monthly, starting in November.

Details of that and other Titan comics for that month here:

Now I really fancy getting the Johnny Red mini series.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

I wouldn't get your hopes up, Bri. They're taking quite a risk with this really, but to help matters make sure you order it from a comic speciality shop. (Newsagents won't have it.) Remember, Titan solicit their comics through Diamond distributors and it's all down to how many the shops order. Retailers have tons of comics to choose from every month, which are all firm sale, and they have a limited budget. If the shops don't think there's any mileage in a war comic, they won't stock it. So advance orders are the way to go. There's no point in waiting until the day of publication, hoping a shop will stock it and then be disappointed when they don't.

I wonder if the language used will be contemporaneous or politically correct?

I agree with Lew, in order for it to flourish, the title will need heavy subscription. It's a sad reflection of how a publication may succeed in these days, but that's how it is. The likes of Beano and 2000 ad have a history from which to gain some form of a springboard... for now.

Here's another interview with Keith Burns (not heard it because I'm at work). The text is in French but never mind that, just look at all the original black and white art there.
