Hello Al,can you clear this up please. If this happens once it can happen again.Did not the tone of the thread sit well?If so,lively debate will disappear and as somebody said somewhere else, will be replaced by dross. If we are being censured, then I am very disappointed. In case Al doesn't get this Comic Fans,I have also PM'd the great man!

I wondered myself, and I've done a search for it (fruitlessly). My guess is someone hit the wrong button and it's gone by accident.

I have also had a look but can't find it. Really annoying as there was a lot of good stuff on there. I also think one of us hit the wrong button by accident and it has been removed accidentally not deliberately. One of my other bulletin boards lost a lot of stuff because the wrong button was pressed. I wasn't guilty for that one!

Hey I posted that thread and had messages on it therefore the real question is do those posts count towards me in "Peter Grays top 10 posters" (I could maybe move up one place) I call for a re count !!!!

I too would be interested in knowing what happened to the Crikey thread as it contained some important corrections to the errors in the magazine. I do hope "negative" comments aren't being censored here or I may reconsider commenting in future.

Lew as said before, if it's gone, it's gone by accident not design. Currently racking my meagre supply of neurons to try and figure out if I was the one that deleted it by mistake as the Delete Topic and Move Topic buttons are next to one another.

TBH I have yet to see any negative or censurious comments worth deleting since we locked out the trolls. Any comment is of value even ones where we just burble to each other trying to figure out what comic featured character such and such. I also wanted to pull a lot of information from the 'lost' Crikey thread as it allowed me to identify quite a few styles that I knew but have never been able to put a name to.

To err is a Mod's lot. To forgive is a poster's privilege to paraphrase someone a lot more brainy than I! 8)

As far as I know, we haven't deleted a post by a genuine user in anger yet. And I hope we don't ever have to.

I would like to think that if we do, we will pm the user to say why. But we haven't even thought about officially that yet.

It's interesting to note that when Al was looking for Mods at the start my application fell on deaf ears  I wonder why  Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely! :P Now Al,can you please move the "Move" button away from the "Delete" button? Also, the Wayback Machine failed to find a cache of the expunged Crikey thread. But I haven't given up yet.As far as I know a robot.txt file included in the code for a web site usually prevents webcrawlers from sourcing pictures or graphics but never usually text unless it is expressly stated. Will keep ya posted comic fans.

Where is the Crikey thread gone?

Post by Al »

Sorry everyone,

I've been so engrossed with other things at the moment, I, ashamedly, have not even had time to see what's been happening with my own site

But there's good news and bad news.

The good news is, I do run the occasional database backup routine, and the Crikey thread is contained within the one dated 7th July. Which was pretty much all the posts that were sent to it.

The Bad news is, I've got no blinking idea how to retrieve a singal thread from a backed-up database.

I will scour the 'tekky' forums as soon as I've finished the other project that seems to have taken over my life recently, and I will hope to give you a further update then.

It looks like 'I' was the culprit that deleted the forum, so apologies to absolutely everyone who is miffed at this, but I will do me utmost to rectify the situation. Even if it means copying and pasting the posts one-by-one into a new forum. Off course, Peter Gray's stats may go a little awry.

Please bear with me on this one.

At last. Proof that I had not gone on a alcohol-induced frenzy and deleted every post!

I think that enough has been said about this thread going so going to close this thread with one pertinent fact. We all love comics and would not dream of removing any comments that make us more aware of the medium we love and protect. Especially, when we have Kash, Shaqui and Lew to contribute!
