Re: What comics did you buy today?
Yesterday I bought Doctor Who comic #04, Jan. and Tales From The Tardis. I found them in the Stirling WHS. Fortunately, there is still a WHS within a 1/2 hour train ride as the Falkirk one is closed. At the same time as our WHS closed, the local big Asda decided to reduce the space for comics and magazines. The nearby Morrisons doesn't seem to stock the British reprints of American comics or Commando, neither do the local newsagents. But if you want the toy laden vehicles for free gifts that pass themselves off as childrens' comics, you'll find a lot of them.
Via the posty yesterday, I received a small bundle of Thriller Picture Library facsimiles, including the excellent #108, A Christmas Carol - beautifully drawn by H.M. Brock. Although I have the original, it's not in the best of nick and I don't want to open it too often, so this facsimile is a reasonable alternative. Also in the bundle is the Robert Forrest drawn Picture of Dorian Gray - # 148, with a tasty Scott cover. Very atmospheric and disturbing looking.
I'm finding it more and more difficult to locate earlyish issues of some of the picture libraries, despite the good work done by 30th Century Comics and these facsimiles make for decent, temporary fill-ins.

i did see that on ebay but i only need 5 of those from 1979 and 1 from 1980 and maybe the 2 holiday specials i would not buy doubles again even if i could afford it, i may ask the seller if he doesnt sell them again for the individual issues.Adam Eterno wrote:Any good to you?big bad bri wrote:I got another 3 issues of Cheeky only 6 more to go its a race to finish this or whoopee 1st or possibly roy of the rovers needing about 14 of those.

Bimbo book 1978 for £1.99 plus postage which was far cheaper than Phil's Auctions the other month. But that was tempered with a tenner for Warlord annual 1977 from same seller. Still, both books are in spanking condition and I can't complain.

I really enjoyed Surface Tension and can't remember the last time I bought comics as they came out and had to wait for the next instalment!

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Fun and Fiction Comic from Dec 23rd 1911. It's the Christmas Edition and about the 11th ever copy I believe.
I've never come across it before but something yelled "Buy Me!" so I did. Done a quick bit of research and it seems to be similar to the many Story papers at the time and became the comic Firefly in 1914. Anybody know anything more about it before it arrives please?

Re: What comics did you buy today?
On Saturday I met Steve 2 at Waterloo and we went to 30th Century Comics where I bought about 30 issues of Diana from the 1960s for around £3 apiece.
On Sunday I went to the book fair at the Royal National and picked up he following:
The Twilight Zone Comic Album no. 1 published by World Distributors in 1964 it is a soft cover annual. Price was £5. Some of the pages are printed out of sequence but all pages are present.
Seven copies of the Gem from 1930s and one from 1917 for £2 each.
The Saint no. 4. Black and White Top Sellers reprint - 68 pages for £5.
Parade Winter Extra 1966
Parade Summer Extra 1966
Parade - Escort (probably 1966 too, same size as the specials and same price - five bob) these are mild glamour mags with some cartoons by Phil Millar and were £3 each.
A Very Funny Business by Leo Baxendale 1978 for £5. This is better than my own copy
What I like about these fairs is I come away with a nice pot pourri of items.

Fun and Fiction had 32 pages, the front and rear covers were blue, the rest black and white. The issue illustrated below, the penultimate issue, contained nine text stories, some with several illustrations. There were four serials and five completes, one page of jokes and a three-panel cartoon. It cost 1d. The Firefly had only 20 pages, the front and rear covers being a greyish blue, the remainder black and white. The issue illustrated below, issue 4, contained one serial, three series in the form of completes, all illustrated, and five and a half pages of cartoons. It cost a ha'penny.Adam Eterno wrote:Fun and Fiction Comic from Dec 23rd 1911. It's the Christmas Edition and about the 11th ever copy I believe. Re: What comics did you buy today?
I've received another Buster issue from 1977, which brings a total for that year to a mere 7. Sometimes, one has to decide, does one await a full year that's available? Or does one buy individual issues and bundles to complete a set? At the moment, I have 7 immaculate issue; if I carry on in the same vein, I may have 53 issues in same condition after 3 years. Is it worth the patience, you may ask. Well, considering I have so many more titles to collect from same period, I think it is. Two months ago, I would never have imagined collecting over half of Topper issues from 1977. But I have. So, I shall endure. Inevitably, I will get them all

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Having found little in the shops of interest lately and the carboot season not until march this was a must buy for me this morning from Oxfam for £4.99p a price I didn't hesitate about paying
I have always liked the older comics even if some were before my time
They also had a book of political comics at the same price that I will look at next time I visit if it is still there.
The Works have the book Neverland a graphic comic of Michael Jackson 's life which includes the pervert headlines.
This book was £4 before the sale and is still £4 in the sale boxes. If it eventually drops to a £1 or £1.50 I may be interested in buying.
