Free Gifts 1969
And so we come to the end of the decade. A decade which saw the demise of two titles Adventure and Wizard and the arrival of eight Judy, Victor, Bimbo, Diana, Hornet, Sparky, Mandy and Twinkle alongside seven titles which had ever present status Rover, Dandy, Beano, Topper, Beezer, Bunty and New Hotspur/Hotspur.
In 1969 of the fifteen juvenile titles that were published, accounting for 780 individual issues, at least three gave no gifts at all, Dandy, Beano and Rover & Wizard/Rover ( the Wizard disappearing from the title in August) but, and although it seems unlikely, I also have no records that Bimbo, that most generous of nursery titles to this point, gave away anything either. I'm fairly certain that this would not be the case so if Hen, or anyone else, can provide any missing details that would be brilliant. As it stands at the moment the free gift tally for 1969, without any input from Bimbo, is 25.

Re: D C Thomson free gifts - the 1960's
Thanks as always for the illustrations Hen. They have added so much to this thread. Maybe Bimbo didn't free gift in 1969 after all then despite expectations to the contrary. Unless of course someone else out there knows different.

Re: D C Thomson free gifts - the 1960's
I'd completely forgotten all about the Funny Face sticker / balloon set from 1969! Thanks for showing that.
I rarely had The Beezer as I wasn't keen on most of the characters, (except for the brilliant Colonel Blink) but the free gifts did pull me in now and then.

Patsy Pandy is perhaps a Bob Dewar job?

Re: D C Thomson free gifts - the 1960's
The Sparky gifts were part of another huge overhaul with another nine new strips in. It changed quite a bit from its 1965 style! Surprised there were no gifts from Bimbo- that title really showered readers with gifts.
Though Sparky was the most prolific of the five `fun` titles for gifts, it was well beaten by the girls titles and Bimbo.
