What comics did you buy today?
Re: What comics did you buy today?
Swan's Archie Annual - but is it the first? And when was it published? Any ideas?

That is a lovely find Babington. I think my find today is significantly newer and that is Volume 1 of the Hal Foster run on Tarzan which was reprinted by Flying Buttress Classic Library in 1992.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

I don't know, babington, but it doesn't look any later than the early 1950s.babington wrote:Swan's Archie Annual - but is it the first? And when was it published? Any ideas?

Looks like the Aussie albums by H. John Edwards from the very early '50s to mebabington wrote:Swan's Archie Annual - but is it the first? And when was it published? Any ideas?
Just found this: http://www.comics.org/series/74388/

Swan's Archie comic run started in 1950. Unfortunately the British guide doesn't list the annual(s) and the following list is for Swan magazines. Wont help us with the Archie annual but might be of interest.

Went to the comics fair yesterday and picked up 29 issues of Wham! numbered between 30 and 96, all glossy issues - £90 the lot. I haven't checked yet but I think there may only be three or four that I have already. All in very good condition. They include four full page ads for Smash! numbers 1-3 (2 for issue 1).

Was Phil Clarke there? He hasn't been to the London marts for a while because of his back, but I saw him last weekend and he said he might go.

Yes Phil was there.
Re: What comics did you buy today?
That's excellent news - the London marts weren't the same without him!

This month's Viz (Tinribs is a winner this issue!)
and
DV8: Neighborhood Threat (by Warren Ellis) - Can't stand superhero stuff usually (even "anti-hero" stuff like these), but I liked it when I was 17 and it was going cheap in a charity shop (not unlike a budgie) so why not...

Re: What comics did you buy today?
So my 'vintage' comics punt from eBay showed up...
100 comics in total (supposedly, more on that later).
Consisting of (all pretty much '68-74):
Some Dandy, Beano, Buster, Tell me why, Sparky, Tiger, TV Comic, the 1974 Dr Who holiday Special, Battle, Warlord, Topper, TV21 and a few other odds n sods.
£49.99 in total.
Only 94 comics sent, of which 17 had missing pages/cutouts. Contacted the seller and got a £11.50 refund.
All in all, worked out ok. The Dr Who special should cover the outlay plus I've got a few Buster to read...

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Selected about a dozen comics from the charity shop boxes but to stay within my self imposed budget discarded some and narrowed them down to three.
MARVEL THE FURTHER ADVENTURES OF INDIANA JONES 1984------£1
DC ANNUAL THE LEGION OF SUPER HEROES--------------1983------£1
DC CAPTAIN CARROT AND HIS AMAZING ZOO CREW-------1982-----£1------
They have three or four of this zany animal comic series, thought I would buy and read this one to see if it was worth buying anymore.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
I remember that when it came out and I read and collected it for quite a while.
Dunno how it stands up now though...

Haven't done this in a while.
Just received in the mail this morning the relaunch issue of Beano (No. 3854. I left it a little bit late to get my copy, but fortunately, NewsStand had three issues left)
Am awaiting two 1968 issues of the Beano, and Danger Mouse No. 4 (which I bought yesterday)
