This is in no way a criticism, merely an open enquiry into why the spelling 'pressies' should be so widespread when it does not match the generally-agreed pronunciation of the word, which would require the spelling to be 'prezzies'.
Probably because of the way present is spelt.

First of all the pressies (She "accidently" found my list of comics wanted from 30th Century!):

Rangers - NN (1 and only) - Streamline - 1950
Daffy Duck – Top Sellers – No Number (#1) – 1972
Blazing West - NN (1 and only) - WDL - 1951
Reward Comics - Arnold – NN (1 and only) - 1955
Family Favourites Comic Weekly #1 - Miller - 1954
Hot Rod and Speedway #1 - Streamline – 1953
Mummy NN (1 and only) - Top Sellers – 1963
Dead Eye Western – NN (#1) Streamline - 1951
Davy Crockett #1 - Miller - 1956

I've managed to also buy:

Gunhawks Western #1 - Mick Angelo - 1960
Dr Who Weekly #4 with free gift - 1979
The Hooded Horseman #1 - Streamline - 1953
Valiant Annual 1965 - 6 to go!
TV Picture Stories #1 - William Tell - Pearson - 1958
Free Gift cards from Hulk comic #2 - Marvel - 1979
Free Gift booklet from Champion #3 - IPC - 1966
Free Gift Hurricane Howler from Hurricane #2 - IPC - 1964
Playhour #1 with free gift - Amalgamated - 1954
Bobo Bunny #1 - IPC - 1969
3 x Smash comics (still a lot to go)
AND......the entire set of 87 Odhams/IPC POW! comics from 1967/8. They look to be in really great condition so there will be a lot of swapping in and out from my existing collection!

Really chuffed with many of my purchases and pressies and looking forward to the POW comics arriving! I'm also looking at a big buy this week of one of my top 20 "wants" but I've been beaten so many times before that I'll just keep my fingers crossed!
I was thinking about getting the Pow! set myself - I'd been in contact with the seller previously and they're in really nice condition - he has complete runs of pretty much all the Marvel reprints.

Nice buy!

They look it thanks. We discussed the Marvel sets but I have pretty much all of the ones I want. Sadly he doesn't have a Smash or Wham set available that I would have snapped up!

That is a possibility that I have considered, Adam, but I'm not persuaded because the 's' even in that word is pronounced as if it were a 'z'.

It reminds me of the different ways in which people spell and pronounce the word Mum/Mom. The wonderful Birmingham Yardley MP Jess Phillips was so incensed when Hansard spelled it as 'Mum' in their record of a speech she recently made in the House that she got them to change it to 'Mom' in all copies as she insisted that this was the proper Brummie version! :)

I bought the 2nd. GN of Rivers of London - Night Witch, by Ben Aaronovitch and Lee Sullivan. The first vol. was a good read and I have high hopes for this one.

Bought an odd set from the charity comic boxes today.

Dark Horse-- SOCK MONKEY The "inches" incident part4 of 4 (2007 )drawn to this by the cover art ---------£1
They have two others from the series in stock.
Marvel comics--SAVE ME FROM THE CURSE OF THE WEIRD. This contains stories drawn in 30's/40's style (1994)-------£1
Image comics----HORUS LORD OF LIGHT (1993)----------£1
Dark Horse---HAMMER OF GOD PENTATHLON (1994)-----£1
Slightly disappointed the Nick Fury (1969) I saw last week was gone but that's the way it goes.
Could have played it safe by buying more CONAN, PSI FORCE,BATMAN, SWAMP THING etc. that I like but decided to try something diferent.
I like looking through these mainly 80's charity comic boxes and it's a difficult pussle, sorry! puzzle deciding what to buy and what to leave because there are so many comics of interest to me.

I was tidying up some comics the other day and noticed a number of comics that had short runs like WILDCAT , THE CRUNCH, FANTASTIC, SPIKE, HOOT, NUTTY, ACNE,SCREAM etc.and it occurred to me it would not cost a lot to gather complete sets of these and although this is not an option for me because I only buy comics I come across on my travels there is still a chance that in time I may complete some of these sets.
On the other hand I have a half dozen Film Fun comics but I don't think I'll be getting the other 2,199 to complete the set anytime soon.

Thanks for that Lew , l was just going by the art style and wasn't sure whether or not they were reprints because as yet I have not yet found any other date reference.

Some classic Steve Ditko strips in those. A good purchase.

Hi Abacus

This link http://www.comics.org/issue/54574/ should take you to the Grand Comics Database for your issue of Curse Of The Weird. It tells you when and where the stories were reprinted from.

Thanks did check that out just before your post.having now read this very enjoyable comic. When tidying up recently I was suprised at how many reprint comics I now have , these are welcome when the originals are so rare to find.
