Re: What comics did you buy today?
Cheers for that Phil as I have not seen that before.
And this is what I love about this hobby is that there are always new rabbit holes for us to burrow down into about artists, writers, reprint histories of stories and much, much more.

I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

Final purchase of the 2016/2017 financial year, with the Frankie Stein Summer Special, 1975. I believe this one has some classic Ken Reid Wham! reprints.

In what way, Bruce, does the end of a financial year affect the buying and selling of comics?blaing wrote:Final purchase of the 2016/2017 financial year
Re: What comics did you buy today?
It does this year, as our goods and services tax will take effect on purchases made online from OS from July 1.
At the moment, no GST is applicable on purchases bought online from overseas if the value is less than $1 000. From July 1, that will be eliminated. (It's going to be interssting for the taxation office trying to collect $2 on something I paid $20 (including postage))
I'll get to that, once the item arrives in about 1 or 2 weeks..

Governments just can't leave well alone, can they? Of course if taxes were going to be taken at all they would normally be taken from the seller because he/she is receiving the payment. The new system you have outlined is reminiscent of our old purchase tax where the buyer paid.blaing wrote:At the moment, no GST is applicable on purchases bought online from overseas if the value is less than $1 000. Re: What comics did you buy today?
The comics haven't arrived yet, Bri, needless to say, but it occurs to me that I will need your surname when I address the parcel. Could you PM me it please.Phoenix wrote:If you want the thirteen issues that will be duplicates when they arrive, Bri, just PM me your address and I'll get them off to you. No charge obviously.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
I've bought a few Doctor Who reprint books this week. Titan's 3rd Doctor - Heralds of Destruction;
Panini's Emperor of the Daleks collection, which is a great read and I'm only half way through;
Panini's The World Shapers, which I bought this afternoon.
While in my local comic shop, I had a look at the Dynamite Green Hornet collections, but I really think they are very overpriced, certainly compared to Marvel, DC and Titan.
The other book I bought is the manga version of Sherlock. This is a very faithful comic adaptation of the 1st. Sherlock episode, A Study in Pink. Script by Moffat, with art by Jay. As this is one of my top Sherlock episodes, I wasn't sure how it would appeal in comics form, but it did the job very satisfactorily.

Coach tour stay at Blackpool.
On the way stopped at botany bay a sort of tourist shopping centre.
Good news: third floor boxes of comics stand.
Bad news: this would be a one stop .
Good news: plenty of comics to look through.
Bad news: Wife looking over my shoulder getting impatient to move.
In a short allotted space of time selected this diverse mix--
DICK TRACY WEEKLY (1988) reprints, (Blackthorne publications)
SMASH COMICS (1999) DC
THE FLINTSTONE KIDS (1988) Marvel.
SECRET ORIGINS starring BATGIRL and DR.MID-NITE (1987) DC
SECRET ORIGINS starring GORILLA GRODD, CONGORILLA, DETECTIVE CHIMP three apes (1988) DC.
BOMBO the jungle boy (1968) DC
PHANTOM STRANGER (1987) DC
PHANTOM STRANGER (1987) DC
£10.15p
each bagged and boarded.(they have few U.K comics also)

My two free lifetime season tickets for Bygone Times in Eccleston also give me access to Botany Bay in Chorley on the same basis. I can easily do both places on the same day if I'm minded to do so, although visits every three or four months would certainly be enough.abacus wrote:On the way stopped at botany bay a sort of tourist shopping centre.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Despite being at Glasgow Comic Con, I was restrained in my spending. I only picked up another 7 Commandos, the complete run of Beast Wagon and The Forever War trilogy.
I also picked up a pile of freebies as D C Thomson sent a representative to scatter a pile of Commando free gifts around the Con. As there were plenty left at the end of the day, I thought it best to make sure they were not thrown out...
So my next few swaps will include some nice freebies for my fellow fans of Commando.
