School Friend Annual 1958.

At over 160 pages, it's quite packed.

Comic strips include a Silent Three adventure, a full colour eight-pager of Daron from Faraway Isle, guest-starring his friend Teek-a-tik, the turtle (nice artwork; I think this was a long-running strip, wasn't it?), Tess - Friend of the Elephant Boy, Dilly the Fire-Fighter, and a western strip: Redwing - Peace-Maker of the Prairies.

Good for you Bri. And you can make some of your money back by selling the duplicates on. Keep the ones that are in better condition.

It was steelclaw that pointed them out - I just refered you to his link. Glad you won them, now you can have fun going trough the doubles working out which is the best condition for your collection and maybe getting some money back by ebaying the lesser quality duplicates. Its funny but my Nuttys are in my "to be ebayed" cupboard but going through them to see if I had any you wanted, coupled with your enthusiasm, has made me have second thoughts about selling them. Strangely I went to the London comic fair today with £200 in my bin but didn't buy a single comic. Sometimes I get in that sort of mood thinking "I have thousands of comics, do I really need to buy some more?"

i have to go to orpington stn in kent the guy says train from victoria 40 mins.for nuttys also had a battle on my hands for 25 crackers winning with 13 secs to spare which i have to pick up from london bridge ,i lost out on a load of year sets of roy of the rovers winning 89 & 93.ive decided ebay is not good for my blood pressure pf i cant work out how to sell my doubles on ebay i may just trade them in at 30th century got a nice few annuals that way

when i was really into my marvel & dc i always thought that but i used to spend all my wages at the time there anyway.but they never really used to have a lot of english stuff anyway ,strangely i have fallen out of love with american comics & back in love with english when for years i didnt really care for english stuff and got rid of whole collections like eagle, 2000ad,ipc stuff i basically got rid of everything that was british and concentrated on marvel etc.but have since bought them back & more in the last 8 years.my friends cant understand my love of comics & tell me i cant bring em with me when i die(they will of course be buried with me )

Ditto. Then I gave into temptation and bought a pile of pre-code crime comics.

This is a perfectly understandable position for comic collectors like us to take up. I seem to remember you saying something similar a couple of years ago, Lew, and I have certainly said enough is enough more than once, to friends locally if not on this forum. The trouble is that even when your house or flat is bursting at the seams with comics and associated printed matter, and half of your collection is so positioned that you can't get at the other half, it still only takes one seductive auction on eBay and you are in there bidding, even before you've engaged your brain in some instances. But even I am puzzled as to why a few weeks ago I bid, and subsequently won, issue 2 of Roy of the Rovers. It's not that I thought I hadn't already got it, because I'm pretty sure I do, nor is it that I particularly want to add to my collection of the early issues, because I'm pretty sure I don't. It must just have been that it was there, up for grabs. So I went for it. When I finally come across the box the rest of them are in, I'll find out whether I have duplicated that issue. If the box is where I think it is, I will have to be patient because there are rather a lot of other boxes in the way, not to mention piles of comics which have been taken out of cupboards and drawers for one reason or another and have just not been put back.

I will always collect comics but what i'd really like to attain are some issues of Solo, one of those titles that is very elusive - I only have about four isses. Also want to complete my runs of Wham, Smash and Pow although the latter is 95% complete. I prefer the ephemera fairs nowadays as there are always old Victorian magazines to come across, nice bundles of mixed titles.

I imagine we perhaps all follow a similar direction regarding collecting comics; buying back issues for nostalgia, and then expanding our interests to buy comics from eras we're not so familiar with?

I regularly say to myself, "enough is enough" No more space, Can't find stuff, etc., etc. On the last few occasions when this has come up, I visited a pal and, guess what, he'd decided to sell some of his Thriller Picture Libraries and Super Det. Libs. and lots of his Dell collection. I'm afraid I just couldn't help myself. Then the Glasgow mart came around and I wasn't going to buy any American comics. So, what do I find but early 60's Beanos and some Annuals. You just have to have them, don't you? Worth it though.
I really enjoy ferreting out more obscure stuff and, I suppose, that's why I'm intrigued by pocket libraries, both British and European, landscape European and Australian titles, obscure detectives etc. A bigger house and bank account would be a real help.
