Got the New Dandy, really liked it - acres better than Dandy Extreme. There's several strips in there that I'll happily buy it every week in order to read. I'll add myself to the list of people who are massively impressed at Wayne's range of art styles (Bananaman in particular looks like it's chanelling one of my favourite European comic strips, Captain Biceps, so I instantly love it!)
Hope there might be one or two more female characters in future issues though, as it's a bit of a boys' club in there at the minute...

Valid point. The only non-celebrity regular female character in there is one of the kids in the Professor Dandy short. Perhaps if fans want to see female characters in the comic, they should petition for the return of Beryl the Peril? At least the new format can still be enjoyed by girls, you couldn't say the same for the first Xtreme, which outright alienated them.

I'm surprised Wayne did so much - didn't realise he was that versatile! Compare his versions of Jak, Billy the Cat and Billy Whizz (the latter two in The Beano of course), they were in similar styles.
Fair point, although his early Billy Whizz strips had a strong Mal Judge influence. The classic style he used then probably saved the strip because his popularity under the previous artist had fallen to such an extent that he was almost dropped.

It's also got Mrs. Fillin-Forms and Cheryl Cole. What more do you want?
Seriously though, about half the people I've met who read Oink! as a child have been women (including Laura herself) so I think you're right; the new Dandy would definitely appeal to girls as well as boys.

As a 54 year old I picked up the new Dandy expecting not to be impressed but the opposite turned out to be the case. I like it. It is alive! I like the small strips as it means I can try my hand at a contribution or two. I already have one idea. Haven't been out yet so don't know if there is anything in the Weekly News today. Small piece in last night's Evening Standard:

Update on my previous post.
Someone has kindly offered to send me a copy, so I'll be looking forward to having a look at it in the next couple of weeks.

I did say "non-celebrity" - the celebrities, with the exception of Harry Hill, will be like a revolving door, in particular it sounds like the "Little..." strip will be a different star each week. Hands-up on Mrs. Fillin-Forms though - so make that two regular females.

Not being a Noel Edmonds fan I did find his mini strips funny.

Is Cheryl Cole a celebrity? I've never seen her mentioned in the papers...

The Dandy hasn't quite made it to the shores of Cairo yet (surprising eh?) but if it's anything like Oink*, I'll pick it up when I move back next month. Nice to see a genuine comic launch.
*although, unlike Oink, I don't suppose any of the Fall will be contributing for the Dandy (but I'd love to see Mark E Smith's 'How I Wrote Desperate Dan-uh!')

Just seen this comment over at Down The Tubes from Steve English
"As a child I was more a fan of the IPC comics than DC Thomson, and this reminds me more of KRAZY than anyhing DCT used to put out."

Well, some people here have compared it to Oink, which was also a Fleetway title and not DCT.

Try and track down issue 3 of Poot, then! That has "X or no X" strips that are virtually the same as the ones in the Dandy

I saw those. Dandy's are much better though.
It's not that original an idea, I guess - but it is silly and will appeal to kids. In Poot they're just crap.
