it seems the previous organiser, Rob Barrow, who has been running these marts since the mid 70s, is awaiting sentencing on Paedophilia charges.
 Ugh! I hope he stays in the slammer for a long time. Paedophiles like him deserve to rot in Hell.

I got the "50 Years A Home for Heroes" Commando book today, from the Army Museum. I think it goes on sale in shops in October. Anyway it's huge and contains 6 reprinted stories, though a couple of them were reprinted fairly recently in the comic. The stories are laid out with four "spreads" on a page at more or less normal Commando size

Does the book have any text about the history of the comic?

Yeah it's about half text and half stories. The text is also accompanied by lots of blow-ups of elements of cover artwork. The introduction pages for the stories also have huge and vivid printings of the original covers. The text is broken up into a general history and then bits on the writers, artists, covers etc. Plus a gallery of covers at more or less original size and then a list of titles
Edit: Oh yeah, I actually meant the stories are four "spreads" to a two page spread, giving four pages to one page and so eight pages on every two pages. Clearly 8)
Editer: Some pics coming soon...

Bargains! Would've expected to pay at least a couple of quid for each of those.

I've just now - as in, right this minute - taken delivery of the 2012 Dandy and Beano annuals from Amazon. My father answered the door and brought them to me sitting here at the computer, where coincidentally I happened to be reading the Comics UK forum. I haven't even opened the box yet!

I intend to write a full review in due course, but I'll save it for after Christmas for the benefit of those folks who are blessed with enough self-control (and spoiler-avoiding skills) to wait until then to read them.

Split off discussion of grammar. I might agree about nonsense grammar like "should have" but it's too far off-topic...

Two early '70s Toppers and one Buzz today, for a reasonable but not extremely cheap price.

I bought a facsimile copy of the first Dandy Monster Comic (from Amazon) its a lot cheaper than its Beano equivalent at the moment. But luckily i bought the Beano one as soon as it came out.

That's because the Dandy one was re-released more recently, along with the first Broons and Oor Wullie annuals. The Beano Book 1940 didn't get released that time for some reason, so it's fascimile is a few years older and a different format, and rarer (smaller print run, I believe).

Even the Beano facsimilie was an investment? I ought to have invested when I had the chance then XD

Anyway today I got another batch of Boys' Friend, this time from 1912, and one from 1913. Every penny counts right now so I won't be buying any more, the seller regularly puts batches onto ebay, if anybody else fancies seeing what boys were into 99 years ago!

I picked up the latest issue of Comic Heroes - for me not a great issue as I wasn't that keen/interested in most of the contents but it did have a massive poster size comic strip of Mary Shelly's Frankenstein by Hunt Emerson (flip side of this s a Slain poster) which was really good - overall at £7.99 its getting way to costly despite being a really slick looking mag it now it doesn't have the Sidekicks fanzine or the free comic (mostly just posters and this issue did have Superman patch - great if your 12 I suppose) which were my favourite part of the package - and no or very little UK material in the mag itself
