Well done to Blaing on getting the 1977 Sparky's! The final issue is the one I found toughest to get of the final year! Are you hoping to get earlier Sparky issues Blaing?

Anyway today I got my first subscription issue of The Dandy (they only let you buy a month ahead for some reason). I also got a cheque off Comic Football because it's been given too many yellow cards and got suspended.

I certainly am, Alan. I intend getting all 652 issues. (I have around 390 issues at the moment)

I was lucky the final issue was in an auction of all 1977 issues (with the exception of issue 635, which I won recently.)

So far for me, the hardest issues I have only managed to get so far are the 1966 issues (it's been nearly a year since an issue from that era has turned up on e-bay that I was able to bid on.
Not bad for a little over a years work.

As the weather was so bad up here (we didn't get the hot weather most of England and Wales got) I decided to splash out on some comics to cheer me up, I got:

Marvel Tales 19 - nice Ditko Spider-man reprint and some Thor,Human Torch also

Sub Mariner 65 - nice Romita Snr cover not so great Heck art (although I do like Don Heck in general)

Amazing Spider Man 119 - Spidey and the Hulk with art by Romita Snr at his peak excellent stuff how supehero comics should be - ripped cover but complete edition for only £4

New Stuff:
Aquaman 1- lovely art and story taking the mickey to an extent out of Aquaman (no ones fav super-hero" well actually he is one of my favs

Action Comics 1 (not the original the "new 52" version) - Excellent story and art - wasn't sure about DCs new 52 but thisis the best (imho) so far.

NEW Avengers 16.5 - Neal Adams and Tom Palmer art - nuff said

I certainly wish Blaing all sucess in getting a full collection of Sparky's. I'm still short on one from 1965, one from 1966 and three from 1967. There are three issues with pages missing circa 1966-67. I do have some 1965 to 1969 `spares` if Blaing wants contact me by PM.

Starboy, the weather was bad down here in London. I hate hot sunny days. Even in the 60s when we went to Clacton for our holidays I would prefer to stay in the caravan reading comics than go to the beach. Thank god its almost over, roll on those days when it gets dark at 4.30pm and you can see your breath.

Have to admit I prefer a crisp autumn day to a hot sunny day, Autumn and winter were my favourite times to read comics, but summer was when all the new US titles would come out for their breaks so did a lot of reading then myself - when I lived and worked in London I used to hate the underground in good weather it was so hot so know what you mean.

lol @ Steve, sounds just like me! I still get the occasional comment from my family about how everyone was enjoying the sun and I'm just laying on the beach with my summer special comics. Luckily it looks like the heat is going a bit now, so hopefully we'll have autumn rearing it's head in the next couple of weeks.

On to what I bought today. After a tip off from my Dad, I found that a local charity shop was selling a lot of Whizzer & Chips and other Fleetway annuals for 99p each. I went there today and ended up buying 10 various annuals including 3 W&C's, 2 Cor's, 2 Jackpot's, a Buster, Monster Fun, and a Whoopee! A very good deal I think, though when I got home, I realised one of the W&C's I bought was one I already had. Still, never mind.

Very nice. I've always said charity shops are THE places to get amazing comic bargains - if you look hard enough!

Yeah, it would have felt really strange going to Hull Fair in that heat.

Overnight, I completed my missing issues of Cheeky Weekly, with the wins overnight of the 5/1/80 and 8/9/79 issues.

meanwhile, I still have to find nine better issues of the comic to fully conplete my collection and the 1978 and 1980 summer specials, but I'll do that next year

On a note related to the topic, in the early Eighties, when Hull Fair still had a few jumble sale type stands I found a huge box of Look-In comics and persuaded my mum to let me spend all my 'ride' money on them. I spent the next hour lugging a large cardboard box around a bustling fun fair...worth it, 'though!

Aw, wish they still had those types of stalls. All we have nowadays are food stands (ranging from fish and chips to toffee apples and nougat), and stalls selling posters and cheap tat. Honestly, some of the toys they sell (and that you can win as prizes) are no better than the gifts the comics give away.

Hull Fair (the largest travelling fair in Europe) runs from Friday 7 October to Saturday 15 October by the way, so if anyone's in the area, please come along!

I might have to travel up to Hull sometime in the next week.

Also, I'm a very happy chappy today. Last night I FINALLY completed my collection of Dennis The Menace annuals. I've been waiting on the 1962 annual for quite a while now, but after a few months not being able to spend too much, I would rarely see it on eBay and when I did, it always went for too much. Last night I gave up, and just googled it instead and came to another website selling lots of annuals. http://www.chipmonk.org.uk/ for those of you who don't already know it. £19.50 including postage.

Nice site thanks for that and well done getting that last annual - I picked up a graphic novel of Kidnapped for a £1 yesterday with Cam Kennedy art - never seen this before its a local Scottish publication (well published locally for me in New Lanark) under the "Edinburgh Literature" imprint - the shop (BARRATS not sure if its a chain certainly had a Scottish theme to it)) sells lots of cheap books £1 - £7 with lots of awful gaudy posters and mostly bad CDs - some nice books like Hot Shot Hamish , Broons, Ben 10 etc.
