Kremmen yep I think you are correct it was indeed Mickey Marvel's Multi Gun - You've got me really interested in the "Martian Screaming Missile Launcher" I don't remember that one (fantastic name  ) - Kashgar - thanks for the info on Toys of Doom glad my memory wasnt too faulty on that one, although I can't believe I forgot all about Maxwell Hawke

I couldn't find any examples of 'Drowned World', but here are some scans from 1962 featuring 'Frozen Summer' in which London gets flooded yet again! - not to mention being frozen and invaded by an army of tentacled monsters!!!

The Army fights back:

Trafalgar Square:

Monsters on the frozen Thames:

All artwork by the excellent Mike Western ('Wild Wonders', 'Darkie's Mob' and 'Leopard of Lime Street')... though it really wouldn't be too hard to imagine the strip drawn by Ken Hunter instead in the centre pages of Beezer.

Life in London has got much less exciting since they built the Thames Barrier...! :)

Frozen Summer looks brilliant! Some of those old strips really tapped into the stuff of nightmares didn't they? I'd have loved that strip as a kid. By the time I was reading Buster regularly (1969) it was a much gentler comic.

I only just noticed that you posted and linked to these, Peter; thanks. Lovely bonkers stuff. The second story is one of the two that first introduced me to the strip in that 1977 Frankie Stein Annual, but the first one is new to me.

The world needs a big budget Hollywood adaptation of Crabbe's Crusaders and a tie in book collecting all the strips.

'The Siege of Castle Gloom' was another good, memorable Buster strip; running from late October 1972 to early August 1973, with art by Eric Bradbury; featuring a boy who has to live in the ancient Castle Gloom for six months to inherit his family fortune. Meanwhile his evil uncle repeatedly tries to murder him in a variety of fiendish ways in order to inherit the fortune himself, from crushing him with a giant lead weight to shooting him with a crossbow to setting a gang of thugs with guns on him - and young Teddy also has to avoid being eaten by the castle's starving rats!

Ordinary folks inheriting a castle has just brought to mind a lovely strip from the late 1950's in girls' comic Bunty called Cobweb Castle. Really atmospherically drawn by the underrated Ted Rawlings. The illustrations of the dark corners of the ancestral pile perfectly suiting his rather dense drawing style.

Well you can’t fault IPC’s green credentials I thought Frozen Summer looked familiar and on checking it was reprinted as When Britain Froze in Valiant in ’67.

Just love the silliness of the story...lassoing a rocket and the robot rodeo...just a great story..drawn by Carlos Cruz. Also a nice advert by Reg Parlett...with out the Eagle comic colours.
it started in
Buster and Giggle 3rd May 1969.
It seems to start at this date rather than the date on the Buster website.
