Interesting to see on Lew Stringer's blog (entry for 28 Jan) that Super Sir did re-appear in the Smash fun book for 1971, when a few strips were reprinted - but renamed Puffing Billy and the Tiddlers renamed as the Horrors. (Surely even in 1964 it was unacceptable for a teacher to be smoking in the classroom though?)

Nah. Our woodwork teacher used to smoke his pipe in class. Now there was a fire hazard!

Wasn't it compulsory for all woodwork teachers to smoke in the early 70s? Ours complied with the law if so, anyway.

Thanks guys for reviving memories of Mr Hall, the dark lord of the craft workshop. And as for those items that we made under his malevolent guidance, what greater example of a mother's love was there than to see some of those pieces of hideous ornament given pride of place on the sideboard for a time at least.

Here's a joke from Wham! 25 (5 Dec 64) which I acquired from ebay this week. Although it's just a feeble pun, could there have been a more appropriate week for me to have been re-acquainted with it?

Lost businessman: "Can you direct me to the bank, sonny?"
